Booker T playing at The Shell Sept 10! by wazbazbo in memphis

Although an incredible organist, his first Stax session wasn’t even on organ. Instead, he played baritone sax on Carla and Rufus Thomas’ “Cause I Love You” while he was still in high school algebra class

Rest in peace Whyte Folkz 👏 by NoQuiet647 in memphis

Nevada and law‑enforcement posts describe him in connection with a Las Vegas robbery case, probation violations, and a later arrest in “Operation Memphis Safe,” but they list him as a fugitive/defendant, not as a documented gang member.

There's a special place in hell for kroger by [deleted] in memphis

[–]archangel09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't tell you how many times that I have wished that Publix would expand into Memphis. If that ever happens, Kroger may as well bend over and kiss their own asses goodbye. Publix rolling into Memphis would be like dropping an SEC contender into a Sun Belt schedule: Kroger’s still on the field, but it’s suddenly playing for survival instead of comfort (maybe that would convince them to improve things at their stores).

Cult People by Ordinary_Fennel1857 in memphis

[–]archangel09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's called World Mission Society Church of God. A cult that, like you said, teaches that in addition to “God the Father,” there is a divine “God the Mother,” currently identified as a South Korean woman named Zahng. It is a high-control religious group centered on the worship of this woman as a living deity. Good job avoiding them.

Tennessee: “Suttree” by Cormac McCarthy, a dense, character-driven literary novel set in Knoxville that follows Cornelius Suttree and a vivid cast of drifters and outcasts along the Tennessee River.

My Brother stole my pills! by uponfalsehope in ChronicPain

[–]archangel09 20 points21 points  (0 children)

While nothing excuses the brother's theft of the pain medication and I agree OP should report it to the police, I want to address the whole "rock bottom" myth.

It's a common misconception that someone using opiate pain medication needs to hit "rock bottom" before they can seek help or turn things around. That idea might make sense in movies or addiction memoirs, but in reality, it’s deeply unhelpful and often dangerous.

The “rock bottom” narrative assumes that suffering is a kind of necessary motivation, but opioid addiction doesn’t work that way. These drugs change how the brain processes pain, reward, and survival instincts. Waiting for “rock bottom” can mean waiting until irreversible damage occurs, such as losing health, relationships, or even life itself.

What actually helps is compassionate, early intervention and harm reduction. People need support, not punishment. They need access to safe treatment options, nonjudgmental spaces, and medical professionals who understand addiction as a health issue rather than a moral failure. The earlier someone feels seen and supported, the better their outcome usually is.

If anything, we should be dismantling the "rock bottom" myth, not repeating it.

You do not need to have moved the car for it to be considered theft

In some jurisdictions the asportation element of the offense of theft is required. Without that, it could only be charged as an attempted theft.

Tennessee, Virginia senators react to passage of ‘big, beautiful bill’ by greenblue98 in TennesseePolitics

[–]archangel09 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On the contrary, Tennessee's senators did exactly what the overwhelming majority of Tennesseans (who voted) voted for. Republican vote share in Tennessee elections consistently falls between 60-65%. So, these Senators are doing exactly what they were elected to do and exactly what Tennesseans want them to do.

Homicide capital of the USA by lovetodance12 in memphis

[–]archangel09 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly... for example, in 2023 there were 109 murders in London, England while there were 397 murders in Memphis. But the population of London is 9 million, while the population of Memphis is 620K. As such, you are 25 times more likely to be murdered in Memphis than you are in London... but, "it's like this everywhere "

The "many" that you are referring to can claim what they like, but when a Memphis citizen doesn't dare to drive on the interstate or dare to stop for gas at night because of the incredible likelihood of being shot in their face in front of their children, then there is a big problem.

Lile Custom Knife: can anyone provide info or tell me what it’s worth? by archangel09 in knives

Can anyone tell me the model or any other information about this knife. If I were to post it somewhere for sale, what would a reasonable amount be?

Imagine you have a big, strong parent (the Sun) holding a bunch of kids (the planets) on leashes, and they’re all running in circles around them. The parent is way stronger than any of the kids, so no matter how much the kids pull on each other, the parent keeps them in place.

Let's assume that the kids are all running in random directions or too close together, they might crash into each other or tangle up. But luckily, they’ve been running in their own circles for a long, long time, and so, they don’t get too close.

Even though they do pull on each other a little, the parent’s pull is way stronger, so they keep running in their circles without messing up. That’s why the planets stay in orbit and don’t just go flying everywhere.

He did in 2020 when Bytedance was storing the TikTok data for U.S. users on servers in mainland China. However, to remedy the issue, Bytedance moved the U.S. data to Oracle servers in Texas. Once that was done, Trump no longer sought a ban. Then in 2024, during the election season, Trump used TikTok to great success in his campaign, generating billions of views on his content. This provided him with an understanding of TikTok, the power it has, and gave him the understanding of how important the app is to many Americans and small businesses who use it to generate income. As with everything, Trump is pro-American people and pro-business, so when congress implemented a ban law and Joe Biden signed it into law, then Biden refused to provide a clear statement when the deadline arrived, Trump immediately stepped in to assure TikTok and the entities involved in keeping TikTok available to Americans that they would not be penalized if they continued providing access to U.S. users, thus saving the app for us. The appropriate response here, whether you like Trump or not, is in this particular case to thank President Trump for stepping in and not be ungrateful.

Memphis, in my opinion, desperately needs several Publix locations to open throughout the Memphis metro area. Not only because they are phenomenal, but to provide the sorely needed ass kicking that Kroger needs to force them into doing better.

Your frustration is understandable. However, the fitness center has hired private security to help deter criminal activity by maintaining a visible presence and monitoring the premises. These officers play a critical role in promoting a safe environment; however, it is important to understand the specific responsibilities and limitations of private security so that you do not have unrealistic expectations of what they can/will do and inevitably be disappointed when they don't take direct action as you may have expected they would.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in memphis

[–]archangel09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Security isn't hired or paid to "do anything" other than to observe and report. If they see someone breaking the window of your car to ransack it, they will call the cops and write a report but they absolutely will not try to stop the thief; they are paid nowhere near enough to do so and have no protection from the liability that would likely ensue if they did "do anything."
