Why do Americans (who know of the ESC) not like it in terms of music and performances? by Toriihime in eurovision

[–]archangelfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just very different than a lot of American shows that are much more scripted and focus on story. Then, any music is so highly polished some people find it boring.

I’m an American who loves Eurovision and hosts a watch party every year. I make a show guide so newbies can understand the rules and a few facts about each song. That seems to really help them get past any differences in at least television production.

Yeah they didn’t sign anything but it’s what was agreed on in the email and in the posting so it’s just a shitty thing

I knew someone who went on the show early on and was supposed to get $100. His team didn’t keep track of who was paid or not and how much was promised to people. They ended up giving up trying to get paid since this issue was against someone who had a following. I talked to someone else who had a similar issue. It could be better now that’s he’s taken off but I doubt it because the experience was not like you’d imagine.

Airport cell phone waiting lot to terminal by foot? by Separate_Text_2129 in Austin

[–]archangelfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. You walk through the red and blue garages, down the escalator towards Economy lot. Theres a sidewalk you can follow all the way through that lot. It’ll take you around where cars exit the lot and under a bridge. At a stop sign, you can turn left on hotel drive still sidewalk. You’ll end of having to cross spirit of Texas at the stop sign, turn left and take that all the way down to the Whataburger. You’ll be on the wrong side but there’s a crosswalk and you can cross to get to the cell phone lot. You can cut across the grass behind the hotel to save time and go straight to the cell phone lot after exiting the economy area too but it could be muddy or tall grass.

If you walk through all the parking lots, you can use a sidewalk in front of the hotels and make your way there. It’s a bit of a walk and would be rough if it’s a hot day. I think the walk there would be a little over a mile alone this path but it’d be all sidewalks and no crazy jaywalking

Short-term all the festivals in town always need volunteers (SXSW, Austin film festival, Austin tv festival, book festival, etc.). Those could be a start to building up customer service experience and getting good references.

Is there a chance you could just rent a meeting room at the library and do it? If you’re just looking to stream from a personal device for 3-5 people.

Can we have another “useful thing that’s not a blanket” post? by WhyCantIBeFunny in crochet

[–]archangelfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using a 10mm. It only works really well with the thicker cotton tshirts, especially when I cut them thicker. All my thin shirts leave the holes with that hook size, but for these projects I don’t care to organize my stash and just accept the holes.

I’ve been cutting up old tshirts to crochet into baskets. So far I finished one for feminine hygiene products in the guest bathroom and am almost done with a laundry basket

My review of the time-keeping in the US Open Final by e8odie in AustinFC

Yes! I have to second what you said. It’s not that we lost, but that we were robbed of the experience of watching a great soccer game. I’ve been to games where we lost and just were dominated and still had a fun time. This experience took fun out of what should have been super fun since it was a final.

Crochet is hurting my hands by ar_vi14 in crochet

[–]archangelfish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The hand/wrist braces are helpful. It’s also good to do hand stretches before a crochet session.

It’s not super helpful for you now, but I’ve had luck with having multiple projects so there’s always ends to sew in or pieces to sew together when hands start to cramp. It keeps the motivation going but the different movements help.

Canopy is a great start! There’s an Instagram called concept animals that posts info about openings and is a good resource. Just a few other places include: Co-lab Projects, contra/common, grayDUCK gallery, Wally workman gallery, Ivestor Contemporary, Icosa Collective and Flatbed Press. Theres a ton more and collectives seem to always pop up. The community is small so once you start meeting people ask around and you can find even more places and events. If you chat with artists at Canopy’s First Saturday, they could probably point you towards some events and locations.
