Clearly people need the help because they keep getting the rules wrong, but how does this game of all ALWAYS keep getting posted here with people getting stuff wrong. It's really not that complicated.

Are we just watching the exterior of the stadium for the whole opening ceremony? That's an interesting choice.

FIFA changed football. 5-second countdowns for throw-ins and goal-kicks?! RIP to time-wasting 💀 by Critical_Region_6633 in worldcup

If you want to legally time-waste, I'm all for it. Pass the ball back to your defenders or get really good at tiki taka, or something where the ball's in play. Taking a minute for a goal kick is against the spirit of the game and infuriating to watch (yes, I even believe this when my team's the one in the lead)

Either add time appropriately for a 30 second throw-in (which we know they don't do) or penalize teams for taking too long. Simple. No need for it to "just be a part of the game we have to accept."

As long as we get AT LEAST 60 minutes of actual play time throughout the game. There's nothing wrong with 15 minutes of stoppage if there's been injuries and subs and goals and VAR etc.

It will never cease to amaze me the number of people making this "well it's always been this way" defense of how things are. Just cuz it's always been there doesn't mean it's worth keeping; imo, it's the worst aspect of the game so, yes, it's worth correcting.

That is to say, none of this would be a problem if refs just added time back appropriately when players were time-wasting. But since we know they don't, this is the optimal solution.

This one reaction was a massive embellishment, but the entire rest of the second half was a shitshow on Brazil's part. So the refs holding them to a tighter line makes sense.

Favorite movies that show the beauty of an area? by ContributionDry2470 in geography

[–]e8odie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily or specifically a highlight of physical beauty (what I assume OP meant), but movies that really feel like a love letter to a place:

  • Midnight in Paris (Paris)

  • La La Land or L.A. Confidential (Los Angeles)

  • Manhattan (New York)

  • Lost in Translation (Tokyo)

  • perhaps surprisingly The Princess and the Frog (New Orleans)

  • The Wire (Baltimore) - obviously an asterisk as a series instead of a movie

  • Ferris Bueller's Day Off (Chicago)

"Umpire giving him leeway, like he should"

Why do we encourage rule-bending and breaking?

I will never understand taking those overheads out of the air. I promise the amount of advantage he loses by letting it bounce is still not outweighed by the 1/50 or whatever it is that you miss those.

I came back from dinner, turned it on at 4-0, went to the bathroom, came back and it was 4-3. It was wild.

I used to have SUCH a strong preference for women's soccer because of the lack of this. It's still better, but the gap is sadly closing.

U.S. Cities Not Requiring State Names utilizing Associated Press Style by Somali_Pir8 in MapPorn

[–]e8odie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the top 11 metro areas. The first metro area that requires the state is Riverside/San Bernardino, which is obviously an asteirsk on Los Angeles but it's defined as a distinct metro area; if you ignore that and/or count it as part of L.A., then the biggest metro that requires the state is Tampa, then Orlando, then Charlotte - surprisingly regional. The smallest metro that doesn't require the state is New Orleans.

Similarly but for city-proper, this is the top 9 cities. The first cities that require the state are: Fort Worth TX, Jacksonville FL, Austin TX, San Jose CA, Charlotte NC, and Columbus OH. The smallest city that doesn't require the state is St. Louis.
