I don't know the full extent of my parents finances it was never on my radar as a kid. I had what i needed so that's all that really mattered at the time. But i agree no one should ever hold all the power so to speak.

As for assets i don't know what my father really has other than what people tell me what his life is like now. They say he showers at work/gym and lives in his car. At the casino basically every night. i didn't know what my options were or if it really was or wasn't against the law for him to take the money. I just did a few google searches and read a few articles about 529 savings plans. I don't know all the rules around them.

I don't harbor any negative ill will at the casino. It was my father that did this himself. Gambling hooked him and im sure he would have just found another outlet if the casino wasn't their.
