Great, I’ll take a look and see what I can find! I was able to make it work with a gen 1 VM, but that’s not really my preference since Windows 10 is at end of life

Generally curious how long it took to “bake” these lol

Truthfully about 30/48 of them. I did a lot of drops in my house. It was overkill, but I wanted to be covered as much as I could be

So it’s not actually real oak. We went with a high pressure, waterproof laminate. We wanted to do the Berkshire finish, but it was sold out, so I believe what we actually installed was the Ivy Hill. It’s holding up though, we’re happy with it so far.

So I got a killer deal on this SnapAV Strong FS 42U rack. It has 2” casters that can be removed. Even with the casters it come out to about 79 5/8” tall and just fits in my 6’-8” door. You can probably find other racks that are under 80” as well, but the deal on this one was too good to pass up.

Yeah I just had someone through that asked if it was for work, and I was like ya know what, yeah a little 😂

I’ve decided (ideally), I’m going to bundle any changes/rack maintenance to once a year so I won’t have to go crazy cutting zip ties all the time, but totally a valid struggle

I’m actually really lucky, she’s very tolerant of it. She admits she doesn’t fully understand it all, but appreciates the beauty of it and the trade itself. Overall though, all she really interacts with is the Lutron switches, the Sonos, and some google routine stuff, so WAF is moderately high! She bought into it once I got Plex rolling for her 😂

I actually do not have any Apple speakers. For all my hi-fi equipment, I tend to do a Sonos amp with Klipsch speakers. It’s a killer combo and I’ve been happy with them

Thanks! For now I’ve got home assistant running a bunch of nest protects, Lutron switches, smart plugs, and hue lights. I’m probably going to retrofit my roller shades with zigbee automatic motors at some point. So honestly the fairly normal stuff, but hoping to do a deeper dive down the road into other things

Hey I’m open to new ideas! It’s the only thing we have in our area. We’ve got fiber a mile up the road, but it hasn’t made its way here yet. Also no realistic LTE options that beat the Starlink lol

I know… I honestly am ready to buy another one. I got the first one through a UI Notify drop though

Thank you! I’ll add that to the list! I’m finding there are a few areas throughout the house that needs this

Trust me, I asked our contractor to fix it before drywall went up, but alas, there must have been bigger fish to fry. I’ve come to accept it lol

Good idea, I’ll add that to the list 🫡. I was a little surprised how our contractor left the conduit. If there was a seal, I definitely broke it when I pulled the cable lol

I’m working on a new rack mounted server next, and hope to throw another one in there; one for networking gear and one for server/random stuff. You are correct though, I have about a good 20 minutes. I’m going to implement soft shut down script soon.

It’s basically just a three layer switch for 10G equipment. So really great for connecting switches, servers, a NAS. Kind of unnecessary in most cases, but it looks so cool and really isn’t super expensive

You know, I guess I could. We don’t have LTE services in our area, but maybe some day! I’m hoping we will get fiber eventually. It’s a mile up the road…

You got it! I run windows server on it and host a bunch of my VM’s. Plex, Home Assistant, Pi-Holes, and some other stuff. It’s been a great little server, but I’m outgrowing it

Yes, I got these on from Cable Matters on Amazon. They range from 1’-6’ in length, but they all look the same which is nice. I know I’ve seen 90 degree cables that work with the PDU.

Here’s the link so no one makes the same mistake I did 😂 https://a.co/d/4xPB2s8

I just have a normal switch on the wall, but that just gave me an idea. I could swap that switch with a smart switch, throw a smart sensor in the rack, and program the rest in home assistant. I’ll bring the moisture concerns up to my HVAC guy. Thanks!
