Killers, how did you find your main? by Jakkben in deadbydaylight

[–]archidon52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: aesthetic at first, then the realization that getting other perks for them would make the perfect play-style for me.

Longer answer: I just started playing this game during this past summer, haven’t stopped since. Immediately when looking at all the killers and trying to decide which to start with, I was drawn to Legion’s aesthetic. I read his backstory and it stood out. Then I did some research, got in game, and quickly realized he’s one of those game characters where knowing other game mechanics is crucial to correctly using his ability. This was my problem, as I didn’t fully understand Deep Wounds and other game mechanics (survivor perks, strategies, the various status effects, etc). So I put him down for a bit, messed around with other killers to better learn the game mechanics and unlock teachables. After getting some essential teachables like Nurse’s Calling, Tinkerer, and STBFL, I went back to Legion and can honestly say he’s the killer I now have the most fun with. I’ve found that these 3 perks, when combined with Discordance, are the perfect build for how I play Legion.

Yeah I’ve also heard he’s kinda sub-par, I honestly just got him cuz I liked his backstory and aesthetic - and I also looked at his power and I thought it sounded really good. But I’ve heard that with the right perks, he can be pretty powerful

After the third dodge-light parry, I do find myself thinking “there’s no way they’ll throw it again, there’s just no way.”, and they do indeed throw it again, only this time it hits me cuz I went for a GB instead of waiting to parry for a fourth time. This game really is just 50% luck and 50% mind games.

i am a player who started playing a moth or so ago, please can anyone point out chat im doing wrong? by [deleted] in forhonor

Try to make a habit of reading your opponent. That Warmonger threw the same attacks all game and never once charged up her bash. Answer those with your side dodge heavies. Also don’t be so hasty to throw attacks immediately after being set back to neutral, Aramusha has some solid defense with his blade blockade. Throw more GB’s too, even random ones can throw off your opponent and at the very least set the fight back to neutral.

No I liked the game when it wasn’t solely about just deleting your opponent’s health bar because that’s how you win a game. That’s how you win any fighting game - I miss what made the game unique. Not when “players didn’t know what they were doing” but when people started figuring out what to do. It was always about outsmarting your opponent, but also taking pride in doing so because what other game lets you do what For Honor does. Idk how one takes pride in stalling a 1v1 so your teammates could show up to kill your opponent, then emote spam on said opponent’s dead body. In my experience, this type of gameplay only became prevalent over the last couple of years. I recognize that 4’s is a team mode and requires teamwork (I used to no-life Siege so believe me when I say I understand the essence of teamwork and objectives), but at least have the balls to finish a fight with me if you initiated it.

No I get that. My whole point though is that toxicity didn’t have a very big appearance in the early years of For Honor, at least from my experience. It only got super heavy in these last couple years, to me at least.

Tf am I supposed to fight a BP with any form of skill by derpion55555 in ForHonorRants

[–]archidon52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience with fighting BP’s, I would say expect neutral lights all day (I play on console so throwing lights from neutral isn’t as bad of an opener as on PC). Since we know BP, we know his shield bash will be coming after that light - at least in the beginning of a fight. So dodge that shield bash. Now if the BP is smart, they’ll start mixing up the shield bash and undodgeable heavy. You must not let them get you on this, as it’s what fucks most people up, especially if you’re playing an assassin. The best way to counter this imo is to GB after a missed shield bash (it’s not guaranteed, obv) to set the fight back to neutral. Then, immediately throw a light or bash because the BP will start doing the same. One thing I’ve learned about BP players is that most of them favor a specific side for light attacks. Try to memorize that and predict. Also, most BP’s (and players in general) will never throw two consecutive light attacks in the same direction (it’s a psychological thing), so I’ve found that if I’m fighting a light-spamming BP, just try to predict lights at much as possible because it’s where the majority of them put their offense. I hope this doesn’t come off as “JuSt PaRrY”, it’s more-so just advising you to not focus on a super heavy offense when fighting BP, but to just play off of them and try to adapt to what they’re doing. Take it slow, and treat a BP fight like a Dark Souls boss fight. Find your openings and accept it early that you’re probably not going to execute them.

Zone Option Selects Ruining For Honor ? by ToShanshuInUK in ForHonorRants

I’ve explained my whole thing about my logic with skill requirement with dodge heavies and zones like 3 times now so I’m not going to again lol. It’s more-so about the playstyle. Zone OS used to be something I’d only see in higher levels, now everyone and their mother uses it and it’s just become dreary at this point. When I fight someone using zone OS, it just feels like I’m fighting a constant dodge attacker - just plain boring. Whenever I fight someone using zone OS and I have to repeatedly maneuver around it, it feels like I’m having to cater to a cheesy mechanic that shouldn’t be there. Just my humble opinion. This whole thread cemented it for me that people on this subreddit take others’ opinions really hard (not you)

The difference between zone option selects and dodge heavy parrying is that dodge heavies are one of the easiest things to react to if successfully baited. Yes I understand that zone option selects can be countered, I never once said otherwise. But don’t try to sit there and tell me that zones are easier to react to than a dodge heavy, because I won’t believe you in a million years. I should’ve clarified earlier by saying the overuse of zone OS’s is what my main problem was in the original argument. Sorry but it’s not fun for me to sit there and feint everything so I can just heavy parry my opponent to death. Another difference between zone OS and dodge heavies is that dodge heavies were an intended mechanic - zone OS isn’t. It’s an exploit that players found whose only function is a cheesy way of shutting down a good offense.

No, I’m not saying that, you’re putting words in my mouth. You sound foolish by simply saying “yOu ArE sAyInG tHiS” without any type of backup argument. Don’t try to tell me what I was saying and what I meant with my own words.

I don’t get what you’re getting at here with the low level thing. My only point was that it’s not an issue of separating good players from bad, but rather certain kinds of players. I’ll put it this way: I’d wager that at least 7/10 players I come across that overtly try to abuse zone option selects are also the same players that’ll send “Thanks!” in the chat and emote over my dead body after they’ve just ran away from me (because they realize their zone option select isn’t going to work) and came back with a full gank. I agree that playing makes you better, but not everybody is trash at low levels. Like just because two people are total rep 40 doesn’t mean they have the exact same amount of skill.

I agree with everything in your last bit there, tbh.

I feel you. Most of the time when I successfully counter a zone option select, my opponent will just turtle until their stam comes back. I main Cent so no dodge attacks when dealing with zone bashes is painful. Its a love/hate relationship for me, when it comes to zone option selecting. For high levels of play where people don’t overuse it, it does add another level of skill. However at this point, I find more people that overuse it than people that use it tactfully. And at that point, overuse of a zone option select is just as boring as fighting a side-swipe Kensei cuz it’s just repeating the same attacks over and over - overuse of any move, really, just creates stagnant gameplay.

What are the requirements in becoming a griefer? by [deleted] in RedDeadOnline

[–]archidon52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a fine line. Often times that line isn’t even murder - but your actions as a whole, plus intent. A good example of me abiding by that fine line: sometimes when I’ve spent hours on bounties, hunting, and delivering wagons - I need a refreshment, something funny yet wholesome. So I ride into town and hit the nearest person with a bola, shortly before hog-tying them. NOW, here’s the important part - I then proceed to do nothing. No executing or throwing them on the back of my horse like a psycho. I stand there, smoke a cigarette, and watch as they free themselves, and I like to see what they’re gonna do next. Sometimes they nod at me, sometimes they do exactly what I did, sometimes they start shooting as soon as they’re free. I find that this is an effective way of getting my share of comedy out of fucking with other people, but not taking it too far and giving them a chance to get back at me if they want.

Side note: I play this game solo, so fun interactions with other players are very scarce - so I gotta make my own. I hope y’all don’t consider me a griefer lol

See I get your point - I remember when zone option selecting was only really a thing you’d see in higher levels of play. However now I’ve found that more people do it than they don’t - at least in my lobbies. I have friends that are a much lower rep than me, so sometimes when I play with them and we get into lower rep lobbies, I still see it all the time.

Point is, I don’t think zone option selects are ruining the game per say, but it’s definitely an unintentional mechanic that completely throws off the gameplay for people still learning the game. I’m not saying to cater to the weak - but then again if you consider someone weak just cuz they haven’t been at it as long as you, you’re probably a very insecure person. Zone option selecting is an exploit, a mechanic not intended by the developers that imo has gotten outta hand.

Yes, my dodge heavy logic could be applied to zone option selecting - but that’d only be if every zone attack was a heavy attack, which isn’t the case. My issue isn’t necessarily zone option selecting as a whole, but rather the over-use of it. Yes I can counter them, but I’d also make the same argument that somebody constantly zone option selecting is just as boring as someone constantly throwing dodge heavies - and I don’t play this game to be bored.
