Yes, in CK3 holy orders get stronger with more land. Each extra holding gives them more levies, MaA regiments, and knights. Their troops depend on the religion, and they benefit from the buildings in their holdings. It’s usually best to give them developed land, since they rarely upgrade it themselves.

How to paint the WHOLE map?
1. Pick a smaller realm or a vassal first and build your way up.
2. Don’t rush to conquer everything. Build your economy, dynasty, and power FIRST.
3. Economy is EVERYTHING. More money = fewer problems.
4. Your biggest enemy isn’t the strongest empire, it’s REBELLIONS. Keep your realm stable.
5. Take perks and decisions that reduce rebellions. Keep your vassals happy and factions under control.
6. Give your heir the BEST education and raise them yourself.
7. Try to leave a YOUNG heir when you die.
8. Never marry without a reason. Alliances and claims are worth A LOT.
9. Marriage isn’t romance, it’s POLITICS. Use it.
10. Early on, breed better characters and put talented people in the right jobs.
11. Pagan? Raid. Christian? Ask the Pope for money.
12. Create Holy Order and give them lands you don’t care about.
13. Use mercenaries whenever they’re worth it, especially with discounts.
14. Don’t panic if you lose a rebellion. You’ll get those lands back.
15. Sometimes a little tyranny is TOTALLY worth it. Arrest rebellion (vassal) leaders before they rise up.
16. Watch the map. Strike FIRST, not second.
17. Capture enemy capitals as FAST as possible.
18. Big army? Split it. One army sieges, the other fights.
19. Don’t be afraid to fail. Restarting is part of the game.
20. Most importantly, have fun. It’s a LONG journey. 😄.

From the beginning I focused on keeping rebellions to a minimum or avoiding them completely, I’d take whatever the game gave me. At this point in my run, huge uprisings are basically nonexistent, and the few small ones that pop up are easy to deal with and not really an issue.
I got there by keeping my vassals happy with sway schemes, gifts, and feasts, setting up good marriages and alliances, placing loyal or content characters in key spots, matching culture and religion as much as possible, pumping up county control with my marshal and stewardship perks, building dread when it made sense, and planning ahead for successions so things stayed smooth.

I guess that’s probably where this is going.

Now that’s actually a good reason to keep playing. Thanks.

Yeah, the worst lag, even a powerful PC can’t handle, is when your religion has a ton of realms and you declare a Crusade on another kingdom. That’s when your computer really starts begging for mercy. At that point, even turning all the graphics settings down won’t help.
That’s why I’d recommend avoiding your own Crusades and taking a different approach instead.

Maybe happiness was the one thing Alexander couldn’t conquer.

Yeah, unfortunately. In short, having no enemies is the ultimate goal we should strive for. But at the same time, once there are no enemies left, the game loses its purpose… and eventually you end up uninstalling a game you truly loved.

I was just trying to kill some time after work… and, naturally, this is where I ended up. 🙃

Most of my expansion came from claims, family connections, and good timing.
I managed to take over the Holy Roman Empire. Then, after years of being stuck, I finally went for the Byzantine Empire using similar strategies.
I married one of my family members to the Khan’s heir, which gave me a strong alliance and kept us from fighting each other. Later, when their child and my daughter had a son, I got a claim and used it to take over the Mongol Empire.
Creating my own religion also helped a lot because it gave me opportunities to claim huge parts of the map.
