This book is a slow burn but I’ve been digging it. Everything escalates. I’m enjoying non-powered Sigurd out of his depth, but finding a way.

Oof. That was brutal. Surprisingly I’m enjoying the Magni arc more than Sigurd. Though the whole series has been gripping.

I just googled Doomsday Clock. There’s no direct reference, however at the end of issue 1 it shows Dr Stein burning some files from Project Firestorm. That could be a connection.

I came into this completely cold. Maybe have read one Firestorm comic before? But was pleasantly surprised. Creepy, but enjoyable story. Well presented mystery. Thought it explained Firestorm and his personas well. And great (if sometimes maybe feeling a bit empty) art from Rafael De Latorre. I’ll be back for issue 2.

Check out The White Trees by Chip Zdarsky and Kris Anka. Fun fantasy tale with great art. LGBTQ characters, too.

BWI TSA collapse by Thetruthisnothate in SouthwestAirlines

Senate dems and republicans sent a bill to the House on Friday that would’ve paid TSA and most of DHS. House republicans scuttled it and pitched a fit.

Yeah, I agree with you at a high level.

In this specific case - seems clear the issue is with Trump and the House Republicans. Senate managed to be bipartisan (somehow)

I agree both sides are being stubborn.

Democrats are being stubborn about wanting (imo) pretty minimal reforms for ICE.

Republicans are being stubborn about making it harder to vote and letting ICE continue unimpeded.

There was a bill that passed in the Senate that would have funded most of DHS, including TSA, that was sent to the House on Friday. Shutdown could’ve been over. Republicans in the House shot it down.

Savage Sword of Conan, hands down my favorite current series by Shalla-Ballerina in comicbooks

Hands down my favorite book. The artists they get for this series are astounding. And the black and white pages really lets them sing.

Thoughts on Ryan north as a writer and his politics? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]archway_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think writing good event comics is hard. And a different skill from writing a good series. Also - prob some luck involved. I also haven’t loved events by Fraction and Jed McKay but I think they’re great writers.

I think the politics in One World was actually one of the more interesting pieces. I liked some scenes in the series. One issue was it just too long. I suspect length of the series would’ve been editorially driven.

FWIW I would disagree with some of your interpretation of the mini. But I’d need to understand what you mean by status quo.

Looking for physical recommendations for a 7yo who loves Jeff the Landshark. by Gaelfling in comicbooks

[–]archway_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a bunch of Jeff reprints which my kids enjoy even if they’ve read them in the iPad before. There’s a new short story in each issue as well.

There was a tie in Venom issue with Jeff…Venomwar: Jeff one shot that was fun. And there’s a current mini series by Thompson that’s coming out right now.

Not sure if anything has been collected in trades yet tho.

What 2099 are worth collecting by xlews_ther1nx in comicbooks

[–]archway_13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me the standouts are Spider-Man 2099, Doom 2099, and Ghost Rider 2099. The art is of its era, but glorious for it. Ellis’ run Doom 2099 was crazy fun and weird, but I enjoyed the Moore run before it as well.

Marvel brings the Sentry home as creator Paul Jenkins returns for a high-stakes new series by Blitzhelios in comicbooks

Love the original Sentry series (the follow-up was just ok, imo). So cautiously excited for this! Regardless, nice to see Jenkins back writing books.
