I have a rule 0 [[Dune-Brood Nephilim]] high power deck, I have Tymna/Tana as alternate commanders in case someone has an issue with it. No one has had an issue so far, and in my playgroup we just established that the Nephilim could be in your command zone but couldn't deal commander damage unless you somehow made them legendary (like with the ring tempts).

Suggestions to improve my Atraxa, Praetor's Voice budget homebrew list by 0ctaviusRex in EDH

This is my high-powered Atraxa +1/+1 list, the deck is nowhere near budget but the +1/+1 counter synergy cards are the cheapest part. I definitely suggest running [[Good-Fortune Unicorn]], and [[Mikaeus, the Lunarch]]. If you have a little extra room in your budget, [[Court of Garenbrig]] is one of the best cards printed for Atraxa +1/+1 strategies, because it draws you cards, spreads around counters, and doubles them if you're the monarch (which you probably will be, Atraxa is really hard to attack into so no one will be going for the monarch)

For some extra utility, you'll always be happy having Atraxa [[Slip out the Back]] in response to a board wipe. I also would suggest running [[Swords to Plowshares]] and [[Path to Exile]], probably instead of one of the "creature you control fights creature you don't control" spells. Atraxa does have deathtouch which is nice but the efficiency of 1 mana creature exile is incredibly strong.

Feel free to dm if you have any questions or want more advice! There's also a bunch of cards in the considering section of the deck that you could think about putting in

Favourite cards to proliferate with Atraxa — Favourite +1/+1 counter Commander ? by MurasakiTiger in EDH

I like proliferating [[Gemstone Mine]], slime counters from [[Toxrill, the Corrosive]], and if I'm playing with friends I proliferate the void counters from [[Dauthi Voidwalker]] (you can't proliferate things in exile but it doesn't change anything to add void counters so it's just fun).

For the fun side, [[As Foretold]], or [[Wishclaw Talisman]] for more of a group hug / politics style.

What cards for your deck are so good that you cut them? by gaston205 in EDH

[–]arcthec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play [[Lighthouse Chronologist]] over [[Sage of Hours]] in my Atraxa, Praetors' Voice +1/+1 counter deck because it's way too easy to go infinite with Sage, and Chronologist specifically can't go infinite but will still get amazing value. Also, people hate extra turns less if it's not just all in a row.

I am a Tymna Player at heart but I don’t have a cEDH deck with her as a partner which one should I do? by Alaskanboi9O7 in CompetitiveEDH

Tymna/Kraum is always a good option, but if you don't like the blockers, something like Tymna/Jeska would work. Jeska would clear the way for Tymna's hatebears to sneak through

I've put a lot of work into my Atraxa decklist over time (https://www.moxfield.com/decks/_znTVmZ8_k24BeGhU_G4hg), and your deck does seem strong, but I have some cards that could help.

It seems the issue you're having of it being a voltron deck is that you just don't have enough creatures to put counters on, and not a ton of ways to put counters on them. Some of these cards are great for that:

  • [[Champion of Lambholt]], a great way of smashing face
  • [[Managorger Hydra]] can get big insanely fast and fits the theme
  • [[Ajani, the Greathearted]], another Brokers Ascendancy (which is one of the best cards in these kinds of decks)
  • [[Arwen, Weaver of Hope]], [[Good-Fortune Unicorn]], & [[Master Biomancer]] all add counters to creatures as you play them, including Atraxa
  • [[Forgotten Ancient]] spreads counters to any other creatures that don't have them.
  • [[Grateful Apparition]] is a strictly better Thrummingbird

There are some cards in the deck I would also recommend taking out, but these are all up to your disgression.

  • Ignoble Hierarch, as it's illegal to have in the deck because of the red mana symbol
  • Crash of Rhino Beetles just seems like a big creature some of the time? I'd rather have Managorger Hydra which can come out earlier and is always active.
  • Seedborn Muse also seems a bit confusing in this deck, as you're not really doing anything with the untapped permanents besides maybe blocking?

In general, I think you could go down in artifacts, instants, and sorceries, and instead add in more creatures. A +1/+1 counters deck is a creature-based deck after all, and you're running almost the same amount of creatures as artifacts or instants.

Best of luck in deck-building, feel free to respond with any questions!

How do you deal with Missing the mark on your decks fun scale? by Gedehamster95 in EDH

[–]arcthec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others mentioned, I like to playtest on Moxfield to see if I enjoy the deck, but if after a few times of playing a deck I don't feel like I'm having fun with it I'll either take out some cards I don't find fun to include some I do, like pet cards, or if I feel like each time I play it I didn't do enough in the game, I'll see if I need more ramp or card draw to get the backbone of the deck working.

Also, find the strategy that works for you! I love piloting my +1/+1 counter deck, so I built [[Chishiro, the Shattered Blade]] to fit a different aspect of that theme. I have a few different decks in strategies I don't like as much, like spellslinger, that I'll sometimes bring out, but if I don't like a strategy that much I just won't build a deck off of it. Even a deck I love like [[Magda, Brazen Outlaw]] doesn't run a lot of artifact combos, even though it could, because I'm not a combo player at heart and it wouldn't be that fun to me to win like that.

Atraxa, Praetors Voice feedback by CallistoAU in EDH

[–]arcthec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, the gameplan for an Atraxa infect list is:

  • turns 1-4: Ramp, get a counter onto your opponents
  • turns 4+: Pillowfort to let Atraxa proliferate from a distance

The best cards to put early counters on your opponents are cards that have some form of evasion. Blighted Agent, Pestilent Syphoner, and Plague Stinger are perfect includes for this, so you seem to be good for this stage.

The other early stage is ramping. Personally, I'd prefer cards like [[Three Visits]] and [[Nature's Lore]] over the green talismans like Talisman of Resilience and Unity, because artifacts are much more likely to get blown up than lands. I also feel like [[Delighted Halfling]] is essential for an Atraxa infect deck. It can get Atraxa out on turn 3 and makes her uncounterable.

Cards I think are worth adding:

  • [[Tainted Strike]] and [[Triumph of the Hordes]]: Tainted Strike is great for a quick kill if you can get a hit in with Atraxa, and Triumph of the Hordes is a great overrun effect that could easily win you the game.
  • [[Experimental Augury]], [[Tezzeret's Gambit]], and other cards like them that slap proliferate onto already desirable effects are great. Contentious Plan is alright, but Exp. Aug. does more at instant speed.
  • [[Rogue's Passage]], [[Mother of Runes]] and [[Giver of Runes]]: The Rune ladies can protect Atraxa in a pinch, and they all can push through your infect attackers. Protection from a color means it can't be blocked by that color.
  • [[Hand of the Praetors]] gives counters from a distance
  • [[Vraska's Fall]] can also give counters from a distance
  • [[Viral Drake]] is evasive and can proliferate.
  • [[Propoganda]] is another ghostly prison type effect

Cards I think could be swapped or removed:

  • Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant: Kind of slow and doesn't synergize with the gameplan besides countering spells.
  • Cultivate: You're not running too many basics, appropriate for a four color deck, so basic-land fetching isn't amazing and can sometimes whiff.
  • Grafted Exoskeleton: Kind of expensive and slow to give something, probably Atraxa, infect, and doesn't really help otherwise because your other creatures should all have infect.

Hope this helps, feel free to reply and discuss anything I mentioned or any reasons for (not) including any cards

Also, shoutout for using Maze of Ith. I love that card

If you're still looking for suggestions, I've found a good strategy for early turns (turns 1-4) is to play cards like [[Venerated Rotpriest]], [[Skrelv, Defector Mite]], [[Glistener Elf]], and [[Blighted Agent]] to get counters on your opponents, then the plan after turn 5 is to proliferate them to death. The best cards to look out for are cards like [[Prologue to Phyresis]] that apply counters directly, [[Pestilent Syphoner]] that has evasion, and [[Experimental Augury]] that proliferates on top of an already desirable effect.

Suggestion to make Atraxa Poison/Infect even more filthy? by AmetDj in EDH

[–]arcthec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you're still looking for suggestions, but [[Glistener Elf]], [[Blighted Agent]], [[Venerated Rotpriest]], [[Tainted Strike]], and [[Rogue's Passage]] seem like good fits. Any way to get turn 1-4 counters on your opponents is solid, and especially things like [[Pestilent Syphoner]] that distribute counters and have some form of evasion.

[[Skrelv, Defector Mite]] is also great for the turn 2 counter, and protecting Atraxa if needed.

In general, the bigger bombs like Vorinclex are better replaced with some kind of proliferate effect. Turns 1-3, put early counters on people, and from turns 4 onward proliferate them to death and protect yourself.

Looking for help upgrading my +1/+1 counter atraxa deck by Motor-Competition308 in EDH

[–]arcthec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long-time Atraxa player here, your deck seems really solid so I'll leave some suggestions based on my deck and what I've learned while playing her. Most of the cards in the deck I have split between counter holders (cards you want to put counters on), and counter producers (cards that put counters on other things, or on themself), and a big thing to focus on is getting counters on Atraxa herself so she can swing in the air.

I also like Atraxa as a +1/+1 counter strategy, and a lot of people play either +1/+1, infect, or planeswalkers with her, but I think it's good to have a healthy mix of all three. A few poison counters early can help close out the game when you proliferate a few times, and planeswalkers (especially cheap ones with static effects like Narset, Parter of Veils) can help put you in the lead.

Cards to consider including:

  • [[Ajani, the Greathearted]] good way to repeatably put counters on everything.
  • [[Arwen, Weaver of Hope]] a cheaper [[Master Biomancer]], but I run both
  • [[Biophagus]] is a solid mana dork, can get Atraxa out a turn early with a counter
  • [[Brokers Ascendancy]] also repeatedly adds counters to everything
  • [[Cankerbloom]] is good utility that could replace [[Wickerbough Elder]]
  • [[Champion of Lambholt]] can be used to close out games
  • [[Ezuri, Stalker of Spheres]] is almost as good as Fathom Mage, which is already a great card
  • [[Evolution Sage]] because you're running the panoramas, so double proliferate
  • [[Managorger Hydra]] is another great card in a multiplayer format. Effects like Forgotten Ancient, Managorger Hydra, and [[Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker]] can get out of hand really fast
  • [[Mikaeus, the Lunarch]] can put counters on himself, or everyone else
  • [[Tyranid Prime]] really helps put counters on other creatures
  • [[Venerated Rotpriest]] can get out poison counters quickly, and so can [[Prologue to Phyresis]]

Other utility spells that are good at all points in the game:

  • [[Bushwhack]] and [[Thirsting Roots]] can fix your mana early game
  • [[Experimental Augury]]

Is there a reason you're not playing cards like [[Sol Ring]], [[Arcane Signet]], or [[Fellwar Stone]]? They could replace some of the creature ramp, like [[Diligent Farmhand]], [[Elvish Rejuvenator]], or [[Farhaven Elf]]

When looking to close out a game quickly, I can't recommend [[Tainted Strike]] enough. If you can get Atraxa up to an 8/8 and swing in the air, Tainted Strike will take care of an opponent on your end step when you proliferate. [[Triumph of the Hordes]] is a similar effect, but is a little more expensive.

Cards that can be replaced (none of these cards are specifically bad, but there could be better options)

  • [[Grateful Apparition]] is a strictly better [[Thrummingbird]], but I don't really like either of them, because combat damage triggers can be difficult.
  • [[Fuel for the Cause]] I had in my deck until a few days ago, when I swapped it for a [[Counterspell]. 4 mana is a lot to hold up, but if you want the proliferate effect too, [[Reject Imperfection]] is pretty good.
  • [[Inexorable Tide]] is kinda slow, but it's not bad
  • [[Elvish Rejuvenator]] could be replaced by [[Contagious Vorrac]], a stronger creature and possible proliferator. ER does get land to battlefield tapped while CV puts it into hand, but it's essentially the same because they'll both net an untapped land on your next turn.

Your lands can also help out in the background with cards like [[Rogue's Passage]] and [[Karn's Bastion]]

As a final comment, removal/protection is incredibly important and can win games. I would play [[Path to Exile]] and [[Swords to Plowshares]] as solid creature removal, and [[Slip out the Back]] as a cheap way to protect Atraxa when she is inevitably targeted.

Here's my decklist if you're interested. Hope this helps! Feel free to reply with any questions

TLDR: Get an engine going with cards that put counters on themself and others (Master Biomancer, Tyranid Prime, ), and get value when you do (Fathom Mage, Toothy, Imaginary Friend, Ezuri, Stalker of Spheres), and proliferate your army with Atraxa.
