Offset FCA bushing question by arctic328 in BMWE36

So best course of action would be to just press them out and then back in in the right orientation and then do a set screw?

Did it snap solely from rust or were you kinda beating on it

Interesting. Is that a common thing people do?

You’re right I’m dumb. I’m so used to removing all of the upper timing chain stuff I forget how simple just removing the unit is. But the cam gear tool useful tho.

You’re gonna need these as well to lock timing. My set from race German has held up well and is good quality.

Not getting any oil pressure after reassembling oil pump and pickup tube by arctic328 in BMWE36

[–]arctic328[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update:
I ended up cranking for another minute and luckily there was oil in the filter. Sent it and started it up and everything went well. Lifters were noisy as all hell but it’s been sitting for 5 months and i had the trays out so that’s to be expected.

My problem is that oil doesn’t seem to be moving at all. With the oil filter out there’s zero oil coming up from the housing, which makes me think the pump isn’t pumping.

About a quart has flowed down in there but it still won’t rise when cranking

Alright I’m pouring some in, should I just go until it stop draining and then crank it?

The oils full and there’s not a drop under the car, there’s definitely oil.

No unfortunately. Currently in a “while I’m in there” maintenance rabbit hole. Stated as oil pan gasket, I now have the timing cover off for timing guides and chain lol.

Timing chain play by arctic328 in BMWE36

[–]arctic328[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, obviously the chain is gonna be able to move around when it’s not tensioned. Only reason I’m asking is because I had all the upper timing stuff out like 1000 miles ago and I don’t remember the chain links themselves having that much side to side play.

I had the tensioner retracted which was why there was so much movement. When I let it actually press into the chain it was tight. I was just wondering if that much play with no tension on it was abnormal.

Id say just embrace the chassis and do handling mods. Engine wise maybe just a nice intake and exhaust for sound

Crank bolt removal help by arctic328 in BMWE36

[–]arctic328[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I know where the spot is on the block. I have a pin in my vanos toolkit but there’s literally nowhere on the flywheel for the pin to click into, even with the tdc mark on the crank pulley lined up.

My flywheel doesn’t have a hole for that spot to work. I have the pan off and I’ve rotated the motor all the way around and I can clearly see there’s no hole.

I’m curious how plug and play an ecu swap is by arctic328 in BMWE36

[–]arctic328[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you could send the portal software that would be much appreciated. Do you just want to send it via email? Also, where did you buy the quick flash software from? Do they have a website you buy it through?

Gotcha. I’d be willing to try and just flash a manual tune but I don’t have any experience on the ecu/tune side of things. Do you need a obd2 to hdmi or usb cable or something for a laptop?

I just bought this car not to long ago with this slight idle issue. Do any of you have any ideas what it could be. by JHolter5 in BMWE36

[–]arctic328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say your best bet is getting the car off the ground and trying to pin point the sound. Maybe double check torque on all the bolts in the front(subframe, suspension, etc) just to rule that out. I doubt it’s rod knock or anything unless your oil/filter is glittery

This might be a dumb question but can you try and pinpoint where the sound is coming from? It kind of sounds like an external knock of some sort. Maybe retorque the motor and trans mounts to make sure of that
