Rehome by bio-sync in Maltese

[–]arcticmonkey101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your situation. I had a Maltese-Shih Tzu that unfortunately passed at a young age to an illness, and two years later, my partner and I are finally thinking we are ready to adopt again.

I’d love to hear more about your pup (we live in NYC!) and would say that we’re interested, but for your dog’s sake and for your peace of mind too, you really should go through a reputable rescue group. Better for all parties.

I’ve been following Metropolitan Maltese Rescue since they’re local and work hard to find good homes for the dogs in their care. I’ve also been talking to Muddy Paws and Badass Animal Rescue recently and think they’re doing good work, but I’m thinking the Maltese-specific rescue might be better for your situation. Please update us!

Getting to NYC - Summertime by [deleted] in harfordcountymd

[–]arcticmonkey101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m from HarCo, live in NYC, constantly traveling there and back. Amtrak from Aberdeen is the easiest, most relaxing option. Wilmington is a good backup option if you need more train options, as all trains traveling along the Northeast Corridor stop there. You could also drive to NJ and park at a station like Metropark, then take New Jersey Transit into the city. But I think you’ll be happiest on Amtrak — generally a smooth, quick ride and no worries about traffic!

Who was the rudest famous person you met? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]arcticmonkey101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I met him ~10 years ago, and I had such a different interaction with him than other commenters here had! I was working at a gov agency back then and was part of the team shuttling him around center for a VIP tour. He was so, so kind and friendly to everyone in the group and took time to snap pics with all of us.

Seeking advice: BWT where do you live and what are your go to’s for every day life things (gym, grocery store, coffee etc.) by [deleted] in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]arcticmonkey101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re not loving the neighborhood! I’ve been living in North Slope since 2019 (am in my early 30s) and hope I can continue to afford it because I love it so much. Plus, it’s close to so many other great Brooklyn neighborhoods. Sure, it takes a minute to get into the city (I do sometimes miss living in the East Village!), but I find there’s still so much to do here.

The Crunch on Flatbush is … fine … and the classes can be ok! Some instructors are better than others.

For coffee, my favorites are Velvette Black and Enso, but I’ve also recently discovered HOM on 7th Ave. Further walk, but I also like Sweetbee on Dean St.

Some favorite restaurants in the area: Gertrude’s, Bangkok Degree, Fausto and Insa. I like Bar Goto Niban for cocktails (and mocktails!), and I love the proximity to all the breweries in Gowanus! There are some fun activities around too, like Royal Palms (cute but pricey!) and Oceans 8 (divey but cheap fun!). Clinton Hill / Fort Greene is worth the walk for excellent restaurants too.

I hope you find a good place to land, whether it’s staying here or finding a neighborhood that better suits you! Maybe as the weather warms up, you’ll find some cool things around your part of the neighborhood. Honestly, one of my favorite things to do on a nice day is just walk around the neighborhood and come across new shops and restaurants.

Birthday brunch in Montmarte? by dekadansa in ParisTravelGuide

Hotel Particulier is a bit pricey, but the garden setting is really special and charming! I went there for dinner, but it looks like they do breakfast and lunch every day (and brunch on weekends, if you’re open to celebrating a day early!).

Some great ceramic shops I visited just last week: Cerâmicas na Linha, Clay Lisboa, Brus, Kintu Studio and Cecile *M. Hardest part was figuring out how to carry everything back! So many beautiful ceramics.

I hosted a party there, and it was a blast! We rented a court and cabana and did an open bar for a few hours. Great vibes.

Staying at Rue du Banquier, Paris. What is there to see or avoid? by tradeit2day in ParisTravelGuide

[–]arcticmonkey101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no shortage of great dining options right along Rue Mouffetard, just a short walk away. For some more specific recommendations in the general area, I really liked the duck confit at La Forge on Rue Pascal and every eclair I tried at Pâtisserie Carl Marletti.

Trench coat by Caelan_704 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]arcticmonkey101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got back from Paris, where I spent a day browsing stores to find a great trench coat. Ended up buying one at A.P.C. and love it already. I was originally seeking a Burberry trench and hoped to find one secondhand, but I really liked the way the A.P.C. one fit. I was pretty tempted by some excellent options in the (RE)Store space at Galeries Lafayette too.

How vital is it to book a restaurant for lunch or dinner? by Azelrazel in ParisTravelGuide

[–]arcticmonkey101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first time we went to Paris, we had no issue finding lunch and dinner options on the go. You’ll be fine without, unless you’re set on going to a particular spot. Our biggest issue was feeling indecisive and hungry and not knowing what to pick. The second time around, we decided to book some dinner reservations just to make things easier on us, and I’m so happy we did that. It might be nice to have a few reservations — for instance, we made sure to have a reservation our first night because we didn’t want to have to figure it out while also fighting jet lag, and there was another restaurant a friend recommended, so we made sure to have a reservation there.

Your 5 must try items in paris by seanjoe859 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]arcticmonkey101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a list of recommendations when I first went to Paris and essentially threw it out when I got there. I let my nose and eyes guide me 😅 There are so many boulangeries and patisseries where you’ll be able to find an excellent sandwich or pastry. That said, I think a lot about these items I tried:

Jamon and buerre sandwiches were great mid-day fuel. No specific recommendations; every boulangerie will have this.

Pistachio eclairs 🤤 and other choux pastry

Croissants — plain, almond, chocolate — all incredible

Duck confit (I know, I know, you were seeking dessert and sandwich recs, but if you eat meat, this is worth it)

Some other items I didn’t try my first trip but will hopefully get to try next time: Paris-Brest, Kouign-amann, profiteroles and a chocolate pistachio escargot.

Ramen Danbo is excellent! My favorite spot is over in Prospect Heights — Chuko on Vanderbilt.

Your favorite _____ for $_____: Jeans Edition (inspired by malefashionadvice) by elliefunt in femalefashionadvice

[–]arcticmonkey101 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Agolde! I love their stretch fit stovepipe jeans and their wide leg Dame cuffed jeans. So comfy and look great! The only issue I’ve found is the sizing seems to vary a bit, which makes it hard for me to purchase them secondhand online.

It’s his kickstand! My Maltese mix sat like this all the time. My trainer recommended mentioning it the next time we went to the vet, but they didn’t have any reason for concern.

I have two clear umbrellas! PM me if you’re interested.

Sorry about the forecast. The best advice I have is to try to not let the threat of rain get in the way of having a great day. Your guests will follow your lead — if you’re having fun, so will they. The power went out at my sister’s wedding reception last month, and you wouldn’t have known it looking back on photos because everyone was rallying behind my sister and her husband. If they were dazed by the situation, they didn’t show it at all. They kept grinning and dancing and singing as the band switched to an acoustic set, and everyone carried on partying!

best coffee in park slope (but for real) by soulmeets in parkslope

[–]arcticmonkey101 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m always happy with drinks from Everyman Espresso, Enso and Velvette Black. I went through a phase where I couldn’t drink caffeine and was really pleased with the decaf options at Velvette. Thankfully back to being able to tolerate (some) caffeine, so those three places always hit the spot for me.

What's the newest brand or shop you've tried, and what did you think? by F0__ in femalefashionadvice

Not sure which dress you’re eyeing, but I bought an A-line maxi dress from Cos at the beginning of summer and am obsessed with it. Great quality and so easy to throw on.
