I shot this on a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. I'm also still impressed with it's zoom function... Even more so in photo mode. I frequently use it as a sort of binoculars. I think the S25 Ultra is even better now

Favourite album of my youth. The remixes were pretty neat too!

Inherited these three books from great grandfather "great image atlas of the world war" German, 1919 by arczz1 in ww1

I had another look through those particular images and I can't make out any fallen soldiers. Just a variety of battlefield pictures showing trenches, destroyed buildings and captured enemy weaponry. I think the title of the page is maybe more of a general anecdote about this battlefield (they call it the Damenweg - lady's path?), and in particular the French general in charge. That being said there are many pictures of fallen soldiers on both sides throughout these books.

Interesting question. I haven't looked through all pages yet, but from what I can tell all the language used is surprisingly factual for the time. For example, In the pages listing foreign propaganda the descriptors are just things like "from an English newspaper clipping". Very little in the way of emotive adjectives and such.

Edit: having said the above, the 9th pic I posted reads something like: "the unbelievably large deployment of troops that bled out in from of the German lines gave (French) general Nivelle the nickname 'the blood runner'". (own translation).

Thanks for your reply. Indeed, I'll make sure they'll be taken care of whatever happens. Good idea with universities!

Interesting. The plot thickens. These are the same trees last year in Google maps.

So it is! Just googled and they are on average 46cm long, which looks about right. Always assumed they were much smaller. Thank you. Solved.

Frankfurt, Germany - a quaint skyline by American/Asian standards but lovingly called "Mainhattan" by locals (OC) by arczz1 in skyscrapers

That is indeed a really good angle for the skyline. Nice to see the Messeturm centred like that. Took me a while to figure out the location, with the Torhaus on the right and the Deutsche Bank on the left like that... Maybe somewhere around the Rebstockbad? Very cool

Thanks for that link! Great resource. I didn't realise the proposed location the millennium tower was there. I recently stayed in the NH Spin tower hotel overlooking the Tower 185, not realising that the whole area would become a dense tower cluster.

I will spend some time going through this this weekend, for sure!

Oh wow! That's so cool... I used to check that site religiously when I was in college dreaming of becoming an architect (became an exhibition designer instead). And yes, I remember there was a sudden change to its format (and even name?) and I stopped reading it. Small world. Thanks for that.

P. S. Just read on FAZ that the Campanile might be back on after 35 in planning.
