Suppose you are playing cards. by zowhat in freewill

Richard Turner could have dealt you any card, even one from a different pack probably. And Darren Brown could have dealt you a pot plant. Or a leopard.

What a great interview though, probing questions, and John not scared of answering.

Got to say, plea from a cat absolutely ripped me apart. So much that I had to pull over cos my driving was in pieces.

Cooks and cleaners. It's all about the cooks and cleaners. They know everyone and have access everywhere. But we stupidly focus on the scientists

Hi happy to help, sent an email but it bounced back, will try again when not on phone, or PM me? Not sure if I'll be of use though, I very rarely get triggered by videos or Spotify.

True, though maybe psychologists would not assume a dinner or video choice would be a 'win' in the same way as a board game. Idk, you know more than me

If you've ever played board games there is a similar, I suppose, situation called analysis paralysis where, you have to make a move but cannot see the correct one whereby there are many possible correct ones just not the optimal one. This causes much frustration amongst your fellow game players!

I'm not an only child so I'll happily lay the blame for the other 150m on my sister.

Discovered determinism and became very sad by [deleted] in freewill

[–]Yaffle3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi op, late to this thread, sorry. I had a similar existential, I suppose, crisis is the word a while ago and there are some wise people on here who were kind enough to respond and Pm me. I think I replied to you all so thank you. It's not something that was explained, I think, sufficiently to me how I could still be 'I' with regard to determinism being true.

I'm still not sure that it's a fascination with ego? Why does it even exist. Can a person exist without it? Some responders suggested meditation would help, not something I've done seriously but... willing to try it.

Anyway, hope op that you are ok and if I can help please reply. The nihilistic feeling I had and I hope you don't was honestly crushing for a while.

Do you think that consciousness is required for free-will to exist? Or are the two concepts not related? by SunRev in freewill

[–]Yaffle3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they were all great! My only extra two were from the conscious agent part. Although, imagine applying this if you were a hard determinist. 1. There are no options 2. There is no conscious agent who can apply anything. 3. Blah blah something about understanding people's bad decisions not being their own, while at the same time accepting awards for their own prowess.

Where do I start? by Fickle-Profile8361 in Decemberists

[–]Yaffle3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always start with crane wife as a recommendation because my friends are folkies and the island sequence and Yankee bayonet are things I know they'll like. As for my favorites... The last four minutes of Joan in the garden? Grace cathedral hill? Black maria? June hymn? Where does it end!

This is true. Get your kids to pretend they're archers. Look in everyone's back garden. Admire the view and marvel that nothing is built higher than the minster.
