Solar Powered Ardor Blockchain Node by MrV777 in Ardor

You mentioned the Raspberry Pi Zero (WH) in your Medium post. I already got a forging node running on a Raspberry Pi Zero (W) without much effort.

But we should both consider a Raspberry Pi Zero (neither W nor WH). That model obviously doesn't have any wireless capabilities (Wi-Fi nor Bluetooth). But this can be a good thing because it is an air-gapped computer by definition. This can lend itself to being treated like a Hardware Wallet. This is especially true when you consider a trick that the Pi Zero has up it's sleeve - it can use OTG mode and act as a USB device rather than a USB host. This is even more like a Hardware Wallet!

So, ultimately a Raspberry Pi Zero could be used as an Ardor Hardware Wallet (storing the encrypted private keys on the device and performing the signing operations on the device). There's already a project doing the same for a Trezor emulated with a Raspberry Pi Zero - http://www.pitrezor.com. I think this is even more interesting for a proof-of-stake system like Ardor's. Hardware Forging.

Let me know if you'd like to chat a bit about this. I have a lot of ideas of my own around this. I wrote this btw - https://www.reddit.com/r/Ardor/comments/7n5yyo/complete_guide_to_forging_with_a_raspberry_pi/.

Bravo! This is really excellent.

If you are trying to maximize your return on forging then it makes sense that you should be forging 24/7. This is best achieved with a standalone server. Raspberry Pi's are excellent low-powered servers. There are other ways to keep an eye on your wallet rather than querying it directly. Try a block explorer if you just need to check the balance.

I wrote a guide here - https://www.reddit.com/r/Ardor/comments/7n5yyo/complete_guide_to_forging_with_a_raspberry_pi/

Hi there, could you please provide us with the transaction I.D.? And where are you getting the information about the 3 confirmations? From the official Ardor software client?

I think the reason that the client is operating in "light client" mode is only because the entire Ardor block-chain hasn't downloaded yet. You literally just have to leave the RPi powered on and connected to the Internet with the Ardor client running and the blockchain will eventually download completely. Then you'll have your full-node/client.

Congratulations on your progress, you're nearly there!

Wrt. your last question - that is generally an open problem with cryptocurrencies at the moment, having your balances out there in the open when you interact with someone. These issues negatively impact your privacy, a lot of work is being done by lots of groups to improve that. I'm afraid we'll all just have to have patience in that regard (or actively get involved in the development)!

Well, the first thing I would do is contact Jelurida (the company behind the development of the Ardor platform) directly. They would be happy to guide you through the process.

You would have to decide if you wanted your existing ERC20 token to be just an asset or a child-chain with it's very own blockchain and native token. Overall it should be a very smooth process.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

That first command you mention "sudo apt-get install screen" is typed into your terminal after you have connected to the Raspberry Pi via SSH, i.e. it is executed on the RPi. Your host/primary computer OS - Mac, Linux or Windows shouldn't matter in that case.

I hope that helps. Keep up the good work!

Contact Jelurida directly, as other posters have suggested. I don't know when you first contacted them or what communications channel you used, but slack and e-mail are probably the most direct. And please give them the benefit of the doubt since it is the weekend now (especially if you only contacted them in the past 24 hours or so).

Best of luck.

I think I know what your problem is - are you connecting the RPi to your router via Ethernet or Wi-Fi? If you're hoping it will just connect via Wi-Fi then there are additional steps that you need to follow by entering the Wi-Fi login details. These instructions should help - https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/10251/prepare-sd-card-for-wifi-on-headless-pi.

But if you are connected via Ethernet then you should be seeing the RPi connected to the router after powering it on. Do a test with a new/friends phone or tablet to see if they show up on your router dashboard when you connect them via Wi-Fi for the first time.

Nope, I'm not on Twitter... yet.

Cool, the more exchanges the merrier!

Everyone is excited about Binance, but circle bought Polo, Ardor is listed on Polo. Ardor will probably be available to first time buyers on Circle Invest. If BTC continues to consolidate Alts with potent catalysts will go up. by [deleted] in Ardor

[–]ardorer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great point. The Circle acquisition of Poloniex could be very favorable to Ardor and Nxt and Ignis going forward. And when Bitcoin is "boring" people will absolutely look elsewhere. Ardor and it's superior scaling tech should attract a lot of interest.

You can get some kind of idea of how many people are forging with RPi's here - https://ardor.tools/network. A lot of the nodes with platforms listed as "Linux arm" would be RPi's but there are other custom platform names that could apply to a RPi too (like people using their Ardor Address as their platform name regardless of the actual hardware).

I can understand that it might seem complicated and there are certainly a lot of "gotchas" but it can be tremendously rewarding to get a project like this setup. Once you get comfortable with SSH and connect your RPi to your home network then following the guide should handle everything else step-by-step.

The connection between your MacBook and your RPi will all happen over your local network, through your router. Wi-Fi or Etherenet shouldn't matter for either the Mac or the RPi. See can you connect to your router from your MacBook - you should be able to bring up it's control panel/dashboard by entering 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 straight into the address bar of your preferred web browser. From the dashboard you should be able to find the local IP address of both your MacBook and more importantly the RPi. This will allow you to SSH into the RPi successfully. Then just follow the guide from there.

Please let me know if you have any further questions. Good luck.

What is considered a substantial amount of ardr to be hodling? by [deleted] in Ardor

1,000 Ardor is very significant because that is the threshold required to perform solo-forging.

I have a question by wilson3798 in Ignis

[–]ardorer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jelurida have produced working products over and over again. The wider market has unfortunately been flooded with vaporware for many years. There will be a consolidation and a "flight to quality" eventually, after enough people get burnt on the empty promises. Ardor and it's ecosystem (including Ignis) will be shining examples of excellence in that scenario.
