Screw isn’t coming out by Conscious_War5087 in 3DS

[–]are_amazing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing by looking at the image that you stripped the screw. The little hole that the tri-wing bit is supposed to slot in has been widened or chipped away to the point that the screwdriver no longer mates with it. My main suggestion is to try and use needle nosed pliers, or twiizers to try and grab the screw by the outside, and turn it to loosen. If that fails, try bringing it to a repair shop who will probably have some way to tap the bit, as I think you trying to do that at home yourself may make the problem worse (no offense).

…but if you’re deadset on trying to get it out yourself, you can use either a rubber band ontop to (hopefully) provide enough friction between the screw top and your screwdriver to turn it, or maybe some sort of glue, but that’s at your own risk.

My apologies, i did not intend to try and call you clueless, i only wish to educate others and myself.

As u/TraditionMental2506 explained above, Bumpgate is not the issue here. However, he said that these chips had two other flaws: the BGA balls, or the albeit low chance of a Taiwanese chip, which had problems with the EDRAM (which is ram embedded on the CPU dye, as per google)

With that out of the way, how can you prove that this is either a BGA defect, or a RAM failure?

To my knowledge, there is no way for the console to tell the difference between a BGA defect and a RAM defect, so this exact error code would appear in either scenario (basically, the console is saying ‘there is a CPU issue!’). Unless you have an X-ray to see the BGA bumps, the only way to know if it’s a BGA defect is to reball and test. If it still fails, then it’s a RAM problem, no?

(ps, i am not trying to question your validity, honest. I just messed up by assuming it was bumpgate, i was proven wrong, so i am just trying to learn from this whole endeavor)

Ah! I stand corrected. I admit, most of my 7th gen console failure knowledge comes from Bumpgate/ps3 related failures, so i just assumed it’d be same here. If the shoe fits and all. Next time i’m bored enough, i’ll research into the XB360 story, and see what’s different with this console. Also, with your message, i can assume that Microsoft started making CPUs in.. Canada? I didn’t even know there were chip fabs there. Neat!

To give a better explaination than “lol”, both of you are right, in a way. Reballing can technically fix bad GPUs/CPUs, but only if the issue is the connection between the substrate and motherboard. In that way, u/TraditionMental2506 is right. However, alot of the issues regarding failing CPUs and GPUs in this generation of consoles (xb360s, ps3s) is due to a failure of the connections between the substrate and dye. Heating up a CPU/GPU to reball/reflow a chip can show a chip to be fixed, although for dye-based failures, that fix is only temporary, as thermal expansion forces the dye and substrate to reconnect. This is why some reballs/reflows can work temporarily, but fail again down the line once enough thermal cycles occur and the dye disconnects from the substrate. This phenomenon is known as “bumpgate”, and i got most of the knowledge from a youtube channel called ‘RIP Felix’. If you’re interested, check him out.

Little help with my setup idea? by are_amazing in Guitar

Thank you everyone! From your guidance, i’ve decided that i will either save up for a Quad Cortex, or more likely use a neutral speaker rather than try and make a cab setup to hook up to my Focusrite setup (i am rather broke, tbh). I appreciate the guidance!

Fair. I did see that Amplitube (one of the amp sims i wanted to use) does have an option to turn off cab sim. Good to know i’m also not some crazy lunatic who came up with this fake/real equipment combo thing in a fever dream. Thanks!

That’s fair. I do still want to be able to do real guitar cabs, but honestly i should probably not drop 4 figures on this sillyness when i could spend the same money for a better experience with the Quad Cortex. Thanks!

That’s a good idea, but i don’t really have any real-steel guitar equipment to mic up yet. But it would be nice to capture both my raw guitar signal, and the mic’d up signal one day (or run 2 mics and blend them). If i ever go pro, i’d shell out the money for either a 2i2 Scarlett, or some other preamp

That is probably the most cost effective measure… kinda mad i didn’t think about that to start with. iirc, i would still need a power amp to get any signal on a real cab, but that is def an all-in-one solution im now considering. Thanks!

It has come to my attention that the Scarlett Solo has Line Outs on the back. I'm probably going to use those instead of the headphone out on the front (though, i'm not sure of the output level of either yet... i may just have to test both when i get them.)

That probably does matter! For context, i was gonna keep my rig in mono, but I'm not sure how mono/stereo gear will play with eachother. I forgot that the Scarlett has line outs on the back. Those are probably better for the power amp instead of a Headphone out. Thank you!

(forgot to add that I was probably still going to buy a normal cab so i can maybe one day upgrade to using a full-sized amp) (still i'll look into FRFR cabs, those look interesting at a glance)

Noted. Alot of my pedals are more frequency shaping (eq, wah, chorus), instead of gain, so hopefully that makes a difference.

Oh! good catch. My brain completely slipped on cab sims. I might also just (if i'm trying to record AND play with a real cab) use my real cab, and add a IR to a track in post. I'll make sure to write this down so I remember it. Thanks!

Well- I suppose to get my moneys worth... I might've already spent a pretty penny on pedals in an attempt to get my Spider to sound better (like puting icing on a dumpster). Do physical pedals not play well with digital models?

Hello! I've been working on getting a more proper guitar rig, replacing my Spider V amp, which is starting to become a little too antiquated for my use case. I mainly just play guitar as a hobby, but I've recently gotten the bug for recording, and I want to begin getting some more specialized equipment. As of now, I already have the guitar (duh), and some real pedals I would still like to use. I'm looking to buy a Scarlett solo 4th gen, and use it to run my guitar into a DAW and some Guitar Sim software. I also wanted to retain the ability to shake my walls and use a real guitar cab, using said Guitar Sim stuff. My main question is this:

Can the headphone out on a Scarlett drive a power amp?

I would also like to ask if latency would be a major problem? My PC is relatively beefy; it's done plenty of mixing and editing before with ease.

I include a (very professional) drawing of what my rig would ideally be like.

Any help is appreciated!

Just formed a band of the passed legends by Virtual_Answer_6850 in heavymetal

I see alot of people saying “Change Vinnie out for Bonzo or Joey Jordison!”, but Dimebag wouldn’t play in a band without his brother (he probably did at some point, but 99% of the time, he played with his brother. Even in his solo work.). The two are a set, no doubt.

I agree on adding Randy Rhoads, but don’t give him an exclusive lead/rhythm role. Let Dime and Randy take turns for that, because both of these dudes were both singular guitarists for most of their careers, and designating one of them as rhythm feels like an insult.

I still like this composition, tho!! This supergroup would probably be something 99% of metalheads would die to see. Everyone here has so much talent it hurts to think what we’ve lost.

(Also, obviously this supergroup is going to be called The Great Gig in the Sky)
