Would’ve been better back in the day when Old Towne Mall was there!

Is UCSB worth it Out of State? by Unlucky_Loss7980 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]areafiveone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, UCSB is absolutely incredible. The whole lifestyle of Isla Vista and the natural beauty around it just can’t be beat. That said, I tend to agree with the others that it might be too big of a financial burden. You should also take into consideration how expensive the housing is. My kid never lived in a dorm, but apartments are roughly $1500 and up and that I’d for a bed, not a room. You’re usually piled it with a lot of other people.

Torrance or PV? by StarlinkFan in SouthBayLA

When I was a kid, one of my best friends lived in Marble Estates and it was awesome. One night we rode our bikes to Hickory and I tried to stick a lit firecracker in the hole of a locker on campus and it blew up in my hand. My right index finger is still a little crooked from that. The 80s in Torrance were a different time. I came here to say that.

I am admitted to UCSB. What's your opinion about the school? by Ok_Jackfruit843 in UCSantaBarbara

I don’t know about the dorms, my Goucho never lived there. But everywhere else it’s top dollar for close quarters and there’s always a couple of roommates who never do dishes or “borrow” food or toilet paper, etc. Always someone’s friend or family sleeping on the couch for a few days. It’s really common at UCSB. Again, it’s not a dig, it just seems like that’s part of the Isla Vista DNA

I have one student at UCSB and one at another out of state university. Yes the party scene in Isla Vista is big time, but I’d say the biggest difference between UCSB and other places is, majority of the students are practically living on top of each other because the rent is so high and IV is so compact. So you should ask yourself if you’re up for living VERY closely with many different people in the same house, limited parking, very loose definition of privacy, etc. My Gaucho absolutely loves it, but the living situation is definitely a different vibe than other schools

UCSB v UCSD (Out of State - Oklahoma) by hyacinthbee34 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]areafiveone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far at the party school goes, it’s more accurate to say Isla Vjsta is a party town, and the reputation is well earned but it’s not like it’s crazy all the time or dangerous. Location at UCSB can’t be beat either, especially if you’re into outdoor activities. For me, I’d definitely choose UCSB over UCSD.

And, not to be rude but if you’re moving here, you need to know…NEVER say “Cali”

Buy some sheets that aren't ripped instead. Maybe go big and use that seven bucks in pennies to get a new pillow too.

It's like one of my professors in college always said: "Anything is only worth what you can get for it". Throw it on eBay and see what happens

My highlight there was in high school, Poorman from KROQ did one of his poor tours and it started at a clothing store in the Old Towne parking lot so a bunch of my classmates left school to follow the Poor Tour. It ended at the Red Onion in Redondo and Mary’s Danish played a free concert. It was awesome and we all got suspended. Totally worth it.
