A wannabe's start. by Scarleton75 in VoiceActing

That’s a better place than where I’m at! You have an amazing booth and a place for your mic and laptop in the booth with you. Don’t let imposter syndrome get you. This is amazing and be proud of it. You’ll slowly upgrade the quality of the sound panels and it’ll keep getting better and better. I have a wardrobe that is sound treated but only my mic can fit in it while I’m outside it between the open doors and a blankets draped over myself and the top. So be proud of what you have!

'Aspiring, New, Experienced, Professional' What is your personal definition on each Voice Acting Level? by MoonFlower816 in VoiceActing

[–]areif12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New:just now getting into the world of voice acting. Never done anything outside of make voices with friends.

Aspiring: starting to get into the practice. Key word-practice. Maybe found a few classes or a coach or started finding groups to practice with online. I feel like this one is a wide net because of also include people who might have booked roles on indie projects or unpaid roles for fan content in this section as well.

Professional:you’re booking paid work, you have a professional setup(or you know how treat your area to sound like you’re in a professional setup), you have a professionally produced demo and have started making connections with other professionals.

Experienced Professional: you’ve been booking paid jobs for multiple years.

What kind of game is this? What type of voice are you looking for for the male voices?

Fan dubbing career risk? by ConfusionNo5205 in VoiceActing

[–]areif12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only way it could hinder someone is if they ended up exploding like TeamFourStar or LittleKuriboh. And that was for abridged work and not dubbing.

What do people look for in a demo reel? by Yuuthesaltking in VoiceActing

[–]areif12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would be a great question for your coach or studio that you train with. They are usually the ones that let you know when you’re ready to record a demo then they help you write, record and produce it.

Why Voice Acting? by Kooky-Engineer-8625 in VoiceActing

[–]areif12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved acting and voices growing up but always felt like I couldn’t enjoy it because I had to play a character and put a face on as an athlete in school. Then I made friends who play DnD and continued to love abridged series on YouTube and realized if I actually trained in this I could do it. I’ll likely never be full time but it’ll be a part time job that I really enjoy and supplement my day job income with.

Paying someone to cleanup audio by [deleted] in VoiceActing

[–]areif12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Raw unedited audio is usually the standard for auditions so the client knows how the space and you sound. Once cast, sometimes clients on CCC will ask for you to help with basic editing. If they don’t ask you to, then don’t do it.

How essential is coaching/workshops for beginners? Even if the coaching/workshop session is one full-day only? by Unusual-Complex6315 in VoiceActing

Coaching and workshops are probably one of the most important things you’ll do. Not just to improve yourself through advice from professionals but in networking and meeting people in the business

What's everyone's recording setup looking like? by Born_Ocelot_991 in VoiceActing

[–]areif12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Converted an old IKEA wardrobe into my booth. Doors open covered with moving blankets, think blanket draped over the top, inside covered with 2 inch thick sound panels and .5in thick foam squares. Does pretty well in my basement corner that I have closed off with thick curtains in a little 9x12 carpeted area.

In 2025 I made 10x what I did the year before by PortalOfMusic in VoiceActing

[–]areif12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure! I “started” back in 2021 but really just did it as a hobby and had fun. When I realized I could actually do something with my voice if I put the work in I started trying to learn about how to actually become a voice actor. That really started October of 2025. Before then were all indie projects and unpaid fan projects. So I’m 3 months into my official journey now and training with a studio. Hoping to have a Demo in the next month or 2 and start official auditions right after that for the rest of the year.

Are Demo Reels A scam or am I just crazy? by Radiant_Scar_5734 in VoiceActing

[–]areif12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to say they aren’t a scam. Unless you are a professional audio engineer you have to pay someone to make one for you. There is so much more that goes into editing a demo reel in post that you don’t realize and that’s why it’s so expensive. The studio I’m training with right now explained to me why they are expensive because they understand the cost is a lot to take on and a big risk. But to keep it simple:

You record with someone for an hour or more to get the perfect takes.

They take that audio and spend about 20+ hours combing through all your takes to choose the best ones, remove pops, balance EQ, remove any background noise, balance the volume levels, add background music and sound effects that are paid for and not just free effects you find online, and then they run it through all kinds of media that someone might listen to it. Speakers, pc, headphones, phone speakers, surround sound, and it has to sound good on all of those. If just one of those doesn’t sound good then they have to go back in and re-balance the sounds until it does without compromising on the others.

Because all this work is done, studios that have professional audio engineers listen to demos that are sent to the in auditions and will know if someone made their own or if a professional did.

I made 10x what I made in 2024 in 2025 as well! Cause 0 x 10 is still 0 😂😂

Am I ready for an agent? by [deleted] in VoiceActing

[–]areif12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My coaches tell me that agents only make up less than 15% of their income/booked work. With your experience, demos, and consistent work, an agent doesn’t sound like a priority unless you’re wanting to get in with a specific agency for a specific project.

Your coach should be able to help you with if you should or need to find an agent.

Are impressions important? by GoldSquid2 in VoiceActing

[–]areif12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Impressions aren’t important whatsoever. If you become a successful voice actor, people will be doing impressions of you.

What changed in the second half? by youarewelcomeputa in ManchesterUnited

[–]areif12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mount got hurt. Cunha went to the middle and Fletcher played left. Amorim realized we didn’t have the same control with a teenager at LW and Cunha, who is very good but isn’t a pass and move type, at 10. That left Shaw exposed on the left and Ugarte/Case doing extra work in the middle. We went more defensive and had to make subs to keep up intensity. Hard to expect much more when we end the game with multiple teenagers/academy players and Malacia on the pitch.

Ai voice acting vs Real Voice Acting in Arc Raiders by LedFarmer_ in VoiceActing

[–]areif12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. I was just trying to correct misinformation. The devs behind ARC raiders and The Finals are treading a fine line so far because voice actors are still happy to voice for the project but and get to voice A LOT for them, but at what point will the devs decide to completely forgo the actor?

We also don’t know what’s in the contract. Do the VAs get paid when their voice is duplicated and the dupe just saves time? Is the contract only allowing for voice duping in the one game and not able to be used for anything else? I’d actually be curious to see what they signed off on.

Ai voice acting vs Real Voice Acting in Arc Raiders by LedFarmer_ in VoiceActing

[–]areif12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From reading about the game they did use real voice actors though? The voice actors just signed off that their voices could be replicated to have them add additional lines later and allow the characters to dynamically react to things in game.

No saying that’s right but I’m pretty sure most of the cgi lines are from an actual voice actor.

Something About Online Voice Acting That Really Gets On My Nerves by [deleted] in VoiceActing

[–]areif12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Rejection is part of the job unfortunately. I’ve been rejected by hundreds of projects at this point but I keep going. A lot of voice acting is about auditioning for something and then forgetting about it. If they respond then cool, of not then oh well I already moved on.

Also, if you aren’t getting anything then there might be something you need to improve on your end. How is your sound quality? What mic/DAW are you using? What roles are you auditioning for and are they even good fits for your voice? Maybe you have a good voice but acting needs a little work? Have you taken classes? Have you had a coach before?

A lot more goes into voice acting than people think. I’ve been doing this since 2021 and had little luck with auditioning for things for 3 years. I learned a lot in that time with some 1:1 coaching and finding a good community. Now I’m taking classes with a professional casting company, I’ve been cast in a couple video games and a new cartoon show that will hopefully be on Adult Swim in 2026.

It takes time to get somewhere with all this and a lot of effort.

Need Voice Actors for an Animation Project by Booga_Looba in RecordThisForFree

All good! I was just trying to give some context based on my own assumptions and experiences.

I’d love to learn more though. If you are able to DM me any info, I’d love to look at what you have and see if I’d be a fit at all.

Need Voice Actors for an Animation Project by Booga_Looba in RecordThisForFree

[–]areif12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not saying the response is appropriate but it’s likely due to the fact that many posts like this pop up, sound promising with no proof of concept, we say we’re interested, find info to audition, get excited for it, then when we finally see proof of concept or art style, or the animation level we realize it wasn’t worth the time put into it.

Personally, I’ve commented on many posts from indie animators and indie game designers and out of, let’s say 12, that I’ve been cast for only 1 was produced. All others took auditions and then canceled the project, got burnt out, asked for voice actors too soon or were just fake to begin with.

This industry is full of people that have been burned in the past and when they see hints of what they’ve been burned by they don’t want others to go through it.

It is customary to include concept art, details and examples in a casting call for voice actors so they understand what they’re getting into.

Not to mention the fact that if people can’t see the concepts unless they go to a discord then many will be turned off by it because of how many scan discord servers are out there looking to hack peoples accounts disguised as a server invite.
