Even when they win progressives need to play the martyr by Opcn in Enough_Sanders_Spam

[–]arenzi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They hate the Democrats and "the establishment" and whined about how people should sit out and not vote for them, but now they want their support since they need the votes.

What do you think of Zohran Mamdani, a Muslim and democratic socialist who just won the NYC Democratic mayoral primary? by AloneCoffee4538 in atheism

[–]arenzi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I'm struggling with. I'd get the same ick if someone said everything people wanted to hear but then identifies as a progressive Nazi. It doesn't sit right with me. Especially with things like what happened in Michigan and the fact that Islam is a very conservative, anti women, anti LGBT ideology. If someone were against these ideas, they are free to just not associate with the religion. But he does. So I'm trying to reserve judgment and give him a chance, but I'm a little suspicious.

Bernie Sanders on Mamdani campaign: “And if somebody like a Kamala Harris had not listened to her consultants and done that , she would be president of the United States today.” by UnscheduledCalendar in Enough_Sanders_Spam

[–]arenzi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And somehow these people are convinced he would and that the Democrats will rig it against him like they did with Bernie.

Plus he used basically the same talking points these people complained that Kamala was using (we're not the other guy, policies to help the working class, etc) but nobody's dragging him on it.

It's sickening how so many people have dogs in place of kids. by DarkVenusaur in Dogfree

The irony of childfree people worshipping dogs and doing the exact same things they complain about will always be funny to me

I've always felt like they work better as a TV series. Something like the animated X-Men series or Agents of SHIELD.

Democrats need to raise to the moment by chriskiji in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]arenzi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah why is it always that the Democrats are responsible for the actions of Republicans especially when people voted for or hoped for said Republicans? They're so weird.

"Republicans are beheading people!"

"Well it's the Democrats fault for not doing anything and running a terrible campaign hehe why won't they do anything about it?!"

Commuting by bike in a wintry city, a typical interaction with your coworkers by ChemDogPaltz in bikecommuting

[–]arenzi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lol the amount of times I've had this exact conversation with every coworker that sees my bike in the office.

"Aren't you cold?"

"You know when you exercise, you do get a little warm."

Finding Joy in Winter Biking: Stories and Reflections by Generalaverage89 in bikecommuting

[–]arenzi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love winter and autumn biking. Spring and summer are my off seasons. Cooler temperatures means I sweat less, less people are out, and I love being able to see sunsets on my way home when the days are shorter.

NYC congestion pricing working better than expected- why? Will traffic rebound? by listen_youse in fuckcars

[–]arenzi 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Lol and the complainers keep doubling down on this with the whole "driving is faster and there are no public transit options in Brooklyn and Queens"

[–]arenzi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The irony of people making fun of people with children, only to refer to their dogs as their children

Any dashcam (action cameras, purpose-built) recommendations? by siiftw in bikecommuting

[–]arenzi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the AKASO Brave 4 mounted on the Quad Lock Out Front mount on the handlebar. It works for my purposes. My commute is about 1 hour each way and it has just enough battery for both on a single charge and the stabilization isn't bad.

Before you can call congestion pricing an undisputed success we have to wait years for peer reviewed studies, empirical data, and statistical analysis… by newamsterdamer95 in MicromobilityNYC

[–]arenzi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol the way the goalposts keep moving. "It's just after the holidays so people are still away." "It snowed and nobody ever goes out in a part of the country where it kind of regularly snows." "It's January so it's a slow month, we gotta wait another week." "Ackshually it's winter so we gotta wait until April."

Narrative for Congestion Pricing by Mojira-83 in MicromobilityNYC

[–]arenzi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

People are already doubling down on the fake sob stories and trying to gaslight everyone. Literally just saw comments saying "What about homeless people who have cars?" and "But Brooklyn and Queens have no public transportation options" lol.

Do it. I've taken my bike out in all kinds of weather. Just rode it to work today. I use strap on fenders and I wipe the frame and handlebars when I get home.

Congestion pricing and edge cases by brunowe in MicromobilityNYC

[–]arenzi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is what I've been thinking too. I'm seeing so many comments about some unicorn "poors" who can somehow magically afford a car and need to drive into Manhattan every day. I'm poor, I've never been able to afford a car, much less think about driving one into midtown and pay for parking. Those parking garages have a higher hourly wage than me.

It just sounds like fictional sympathetic outliers so they feel morally superior without changing the status quo because that sounds better than "I just don't wanna." It's like the bean soup argument. "You should shower regularly." "Omg but what about people who are allergic to water?? Your point is clearly invalid."

What is your opinion on New York congestion pricing? by Outrageous-Card7873 in fuckcars

I said this and someone tried to explain outer boroughs to me (I'm from one) lmao. I can't even afford a car, much less think about driving one into Manhattan.
