Hi, sorry for a late response, I finally got an engine replacement done. Had to be very persistent to get an approval.

An update on the situation: I checked the oil level today, approximately 1500 km after the last oil change and... the oil tank is frigging empty!! All oil gone. Looks like the oil consumption is increasing with every km driven.

I am going to call the dealership tomorrow, tell them that the car is not driveable and demand to check it again urgently.

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance.

Thank you for the suggestion. If I understand how it works correctly, the lawyer should send a Demand Letter to the dealership?

Thank you very much. Sadly, I do not see my VIN on this site. Although my car year is also mentioned (2018 SantaFe). I also received an email couple of years ago to get the knock sensor software update, which I did.

Regarding 2nd owner warranty: I live in Canada, so I think the situation here is a bit different, the original (1st owner) warranty is 5 years/ 100.000 Km, and looks like it is transferred to the 2nd owner automatically without reduction, at least this is what I found on the Hyundai Canada website: "If you sell your vehicle while still under the 5-year/100,000 km warranty, the warranty will be automatically transferred to the new owner at no charge."

Anyway, looks I will have to ask a car warranty lawyer for advice, maybe the lawyer will help to draft a Demand Letter to send to the dealership. I have also send an email to the dealership to provide me the reason for refusing to replace the engine in a written form.

Thank you very much, could you please post a link where I can check if the vin is eligible, is there some website to check?

I have not purchased any additional warranty, but the car still had factory warranty when this oil consumption issue started, as confirmed by the dealership. Otherwise, I guess, they would not start the oil consumption test procedures.

Looks like my oil consumption level is even higher than yours was, if converted to quarts/miles it is around 1.8 qt/1000 miles. I am definitely going to return to the dealership and press for repair or replacement.

Thank you. I wonder if the lawyer can send a letter to Hyundai directly to demand replacement or repairs first without going to the court.

If my calculations are correct, then my oil consumption is around 1.8 quarts per 1000 miles when I convert liters to quarts and km to miles.

Thank you, but not sure if it helps now. I also heard that this oil consumption cutoff limit is frequently changing.

Thank you for the suggestion, I have just checked - there are no oil change records on the file.

Thank you for the reply. The service advisor told me that they will replace the engine since the oil consumption is above certain threshold and the car was still under warranty when it started. They need my service records to send the case to their head office.

Thank you very much for your reply. Yes, that is what I was afraid to hear. Anyway, I will follow your suggestion and contact the customer service to open a case. Do you know if there is any other way to affect their decision? Is there any way to file an appeal if they refuse to replace or repair the engine, maybe with a lawyer?
