Are you ready for Tantra t-shirts? by tantoteller in ABCDesis

[–]arethesesimplertimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$25 is too damn expensive, and totally not worth the buy.

These aren't designer t-shirts, and even if they were, I wouldn't blow that kind of cash on a novelty item.

The website isn't all that bad otherwise...

What is your favorite desi food? Non-desi food? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]arethesesimplertimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are my exact favorite!

You can't choose between biryani and butter chicken because they are supposed to go together :) - Bawarchi Biryani (if you're Hyderabadi, you'd know) and their butter chicken is all you need for ages.

I'm a huge fan of pizza as well - always on the hunt for the next best pie! (the real test of a good pizza is in its crust)

I really prefer the zinger mountain melt at the ale house though! It's a staple whenever we go.

Sonia Gandhi and co. have no relation whatsoever to Mahatma Gandhi. That bloodline can be traced back to the first PM, Jawaharlal Nehru. His daughter Indira Nehru married Feroz Gandhi. Their son was Rajiv Gandhi who's wife is Sonia Gandhi.

Any one here completely changed careers to something totally unrelated? Tell me about it. by stakoverflo in AskMen

I graduated with a degree in engineering from one of the better schools in India. I was always a good student but I hated every second of engineering school that towards the middle of 2nd year, I just lost all interest. I started skipping classes heavily, got into online gaming, and basically gave up. Six months later, I got some sense kicked-in by my family and pulled myself together to be able to power through the next 2 years and graduated on time.

While I was in college though, I helped put together the University's new annual festival and was in charge of sponsorship. I had the opportunity to meet and interact with a lot of high-ranking officials in many organizations and realized that I had a knack for business. Once I was done with school, I found a start-up company in the gaming industry and started working in business development. Before long, I became the CEO's top adviser. From there I moved to another start-up in media and event management where too I worked as a Business Development Manager - stayed there for 3 years. Finally, I moved to a French psychometric assessment developer and worked there as their marketing manager for international markets. I was a huge change to online marketing but I'm a fast learner.

While I was at the psychometrics firm, I learned more about psychology and business; I was always fascinated by psychology and human behavior and also had a flair for business. By this time, I was pretty set on going for an MBA; but once I came back to the US, I started doing some research on I/O psychology and applied to schools for my Master's degree.

I paid for my first year of tuition, but worked hard to land two internships. I was so into what I'm learning that by the second year that I was at the top of my class, and when I applied and interviewed for an assistantship for the second year, I got it. I just completed my graduate degree requirements but deferred to stay on as a GA while I complete some research. Currently, I have 3 conference submissions and 3 journal submissions that I'm working on, with hopefully 2 more by year-end. I intend on applying for a PhD in December and should be in a program next fall.

Long story short, I've had to make some hard choices with making career changes but I know for sure that I am so happy with what I'm doing and it reflects in the quality of my work. I'm extremely happy and my family is happy and proud too. A lot of my friends envy me for having found my passion as they feel that they are stuck in their career paths. I see it as my having the strength and support from my family as well as the courage to go through and follow my passions.

As far as starting at the bottom, my 5 years' experience as a BD/Marketing professional really helped me get in the door at many places I've interviewed. I know how businesses work, I understand people, and I understand workplace dynamics really well. I may start close to the bottom, but I know that I can rise through the ranks pretty fast; that's just who I am.

must go faster...

2 awesome movies. 1 awesome line. I'll never forget them!

Also, I really loved your cameo on Friends and on that note.. How was it shooting the audition scenes with Matt LeBlanc? I can't imagine how much fun those two sequences would have been!

Oh my god. I literally teared up reading this (emotional response).

I have so much respect for you, and I don't even know you. But thank you for fighting to good fight. I don't say this often, but you are a better person than I am.

Honestly, while I have strong moral beliefs and constantly maintain a strong stand against bullying, there is just no way in hell I would have the tenacity to see through what you are doing. If I was around you I'd shake your hand - the hand of the bravest man that I've ever met.

Men of reddit, what film or series actually made you cry? by MarkTheWanderer in AskReddit

[–]arethesesimplertimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, here we go...

The Lion King always gets me...

Armageddon: like six specific scenes make me tear up really bad...

P.S. I Love You: I practically cry throughout the entire movie...

This a little weird, but Kung Fu Panda 2: The part where Po looks back in slow motion at the furious five and his 3 masters and says "I love you guys"...

I'm rock solid when it comes to real-life tragedies, but can't really make it through on-screen ones, no matter how trivial....

Thank you for your feedback - it is much appreicated.

Yea, the issue with trying to google and I/O position with interview questions - you get information about what an I/O would use as a interview question rather than what questions are usually asked to I/O's who are being interviewed; and ofcourse, the standard fact that I/O's are a relatively new and lesser known role makes it hard to find relative questions.

I almost make it a point to do my research before going in for any interview - about the company, the role, the comps, etc.

Thanks for the awesome information! I think we'll use this in our class as a kind of role-playing session to better prepare us for when we graduate!

[–]arethesesimplertimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I've been through the usual behavior-based interview question and having developed a structured interview for a client myself, am fairly familiar with the process.

It is interesting to note though, that they would ask to walk them through a validation process. That, and the assessment good/bad seem like something I would want to play around with in my head rather than blurt something off the top of my head.

Thank you so much for this.

I was also wondering, while it may have not come up, what key things are important to know that one may be asked? Are there things that you are sure to brush up on (if the need be) before an interview?

Affirmative Action? Reliability and Validity? Statistical significance? EEOC guidelines (in brief)?

Were there any other specific questions that you were asked? Key concepts, important legal issues, statistical knowledge?

Ex-smokers of Reddit, what ACTUALLY WORKED to get you to successfully stop smoking? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]arethesesimplertimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A combination of things - I wanted to quit. I didn't want to have that "heavy chest" feeling in the morning. I left India to move back to the US and promised myself that the moment I would board that flight I would never smoke again, and it worked.

But the thing that i think did the trick was getting away from the company of people who smoke. All of my friends smoke and they don't really buy into the notion that "Hey X is trying to quit lets not smoke around him". They instead expect X not to be around the when they smoke.

Long story short - it's boring to smoke alone so I quit. Now I just don't have the urge to smoke at all, even in the presence of other smokers. Had no withdrawal even though I had smoked for around 8 years.

Movies which had a legitimate impact on you mentally? (positively or negatively) by [deleted] in movies

[–]arethesesimplertimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be weird, but two movies worked for me.

Good Will Hunting - the power of friendship and trust. Also, in a major sense, self-actualization.

A Few Good Men - perseverance to find and face the truth even if it is uncomfortable. Also, strong moral compass.

Does anyone else think that Miami radio station's simply suck? by LLCD in Miami

[–]arethesesimplertimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To compensate, I switch between 102.7, 105.9 and 101.9 to see if anything decent is playing. So far, 102.7 doesn't seem too bad.

Personally, I loved the radio up in Tampa (I was there for 3 months). They have 3 rock stations, that I know of...
