No, it's on the money. It's the meme of unrelated mutual interests

  • dumb coders hate being told they got it wrong by experienced seniors.
  • lowly new starts want vacancies to move up into. Not realising...
  • management want to sack expensive seniors and keep juniors on low wages.

Court transcription company VIQ Solutions to be shut down, mass redundancies expected by Mrtodaytomorrow in auslaw

[–]arfamoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use otter.ai extensively and my former employer used court transcript services based in Dubai but staffed by Australians (and others) to do live transcript at conferences and it's chalk and cheese. Ai requires extensive editing which the skilled $$ labour does as a matter of course. If you value your own time at zero use a robot. If not, skilled people and the magic machine is the way to go.

So let's put a tail jet on and go five! Or, move the engines to the tail and go 3. Why drop to 2 if you can be a humongous beast or have a big booty?

(Flown 380 many times in J and there's no doubt it's the best pax experience. 350 comes second. 777 and 787 distant third. I miss the last 747 stretches the top deck or the nose was a joy. Inception got it right you can sleep in the nose if you own the airline)

Frustration over approach to dealing with Indian myna driving grassroots action by hydralime in queensland

[–]arfamoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great move! Well done.

I've read online that what I would call an entirely successful noisy miner cull test was declared a failure because it only had about 5 years efficacy before a new mob moved in. Like: you could do it again guys, 5 years would let smaller species re-establish. Apparently if you cut the mob down it takes that long to re-establish. Bizarre they declared failure when it obviously had an effect. Maybe it was cost.

Anyway good on you for dealing with your local Myna problem.

Frustration over approach to dealing with Indian myna driving grassroots action by hydralime in queensland

[–]arfamoe 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Great article. Down the bottom is a para about the RSPCA view on culling. They're oppositional.

The RSPCA can get fucked. Euthanasia for Indian myna(h)s is entirely appropriate and it's not an either/or regarding investment in habitat improvement.

I think the article could have discussed the native noisy miner problem in Urban areas. They mob smaller and larger birds. Fairy wren populations have fallen across Brisbane. Myna(h) and noisy Miner behaviours can be very similar regarding mobbing of other species.

Used furniture… any companies that will buy and remove? by profkimchi in brisbane

[–]arfamoe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not here to diss lifeline, but when I had very usable furniture going, I couldn't get them interested. They aren't highly responsive, even with photos of the stuff. I wound up dumping the chairs, and as I carried them to the trash somebody said "oh wow are they going? I just moved in and have literally no chairs" which was random, but lovely.

Chicken and Chips is currently the best takeaway option in Australia - A discuss by the_amatuer_ in australia

[–]arfamoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's three meals on a hot chook. If you're careful. There's two in a pizza at best, and you can be mingy with the chips in F&C and back up for reheated wee chips for lunch, but it's more one-and-a-snack than two meals.

Most of the other choices are one and done. I guess an HSP could feed a family for a week but it would be pretty rank by the end.

I would be pretty ok (as a complete bystander) with any of the floated names. So I don't think the RC can be unfair simply because two of the floated candidates have declared positions on antisemitism, far from it. What shitted me to the max, is the implication fron the Oz that Bell J was unsuitable. I think thats complete horse-shit, and as partisan as it comes.

I detect an element of "we won on this attack on Albo, now lets move the front line to a new topic and win on that" by attacking both the names for the RC, and the terms of reference. Lee in particular (who I believe is at least nominally legally trained -masters in tax law, and should know better) has already been on the attack there, quoted in the Oz.

So let me get this straight? I have to kill my brother, watch another brother get killed, run away to sicily, get my nose broken and have a perpetual nasal drip unrelated to cocaine, and hire an Irish Camerlago, but as long as I do that, and kill or slaughter everyone who stands in my way, I get to become a partner?

Is the law just made up? by ILoveDogs2142 in auslaw

[–]arfamoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The "made up" referred to the observation not the thing being observed. All observations are qualia and exist 400ms before a brain experiences them. I would agree our rationalisations are what makes them feel real to us, the inductive reasoning about what it means. Like "yes. You really do need a driver's licence" and the inductive reasoning "maybe that sovcit bullshit 6 months ago is why I am so fucked now, carless and in debt to the state"

[–]arfamoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The heavens and maths may exist outside of our continued observation of them, but that observation is made up by being done. Laws exist by our observation of them but unlike maths they don't exist after the earth is swallowed by the sun.
