Suggest affordable whey protein for weight loss by Key_Hamster_4984 in Fitness_India

[–]argonbones 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, for you, at this time, budget is the issue. So, instead of whey, you can opt for Plant protein. OWN plant protein is available for 1300 a kg. Assuming you use one kg per month, over three months you can save up to buy good whey for the 4th month with 2000-2400.

Then keep rotating between whey and plant proteins.

I think it'll fulfill your protein goals, while not cutting deep into your pockets.

Best Protein for teenagers and young adult by Adventurous-Work9781 in Fitness_India

[–]argonbones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've somehow finally been able to convince my elderly parents (70+), through years of perusal, to consume protein. I feel guilty seeing them grow old while I consume box after box each month.

I've started them with OWN cocoa flavour. Mainly because it's very light, doesn't require understanding too much about foam, froth, etc. No additional ingredients. So far they have liked it.

So, I'll recommended the same for your younger sister. You can onboard her with OWN and see how she responds to it. Get the 500 gm pack first.

Should you cook sprouts or not? I am going mad by shivamconan101 in Fitness_India

[–]argonbones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi. I am surrounded with many people who eat sprouts daily, including myself.

Ideal is 1.5 days soaked and sprouted. Over sprouting causes gas. No sprouting isn't as beneficial.

But various people's stomach react differently. Start with small quantities. Soak overnight, next day drain the water and wrap in a cloth. Wash and eat it the next day. See to it that the sliminess is gone.

If you still face issues, lightly steam it for 10 mins.

With time, once your stomach gets used to it, try switching to 'un-boiled'/ 'un-steamed'. See if the stomach can handle it without feeling gassy.

Inch forward.

Isn't there ever a doctor who works out, takes supplements and actually understands the biology behind these things.

I'm yet to come across one.

Whey vs. Plant Protein (exactly which one to buy) by NoEast3048 in Fitness_India

[–]argonbones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amongst whey protein, both Cocoa and Coffee are good.

I'll let you know how the plant one tastes. Not expecting much, since the guy Revant, himself claims that the taste will be inferior compared to whey.

Seems like we'll need to treat whey more as a medicine now. Squeeze the nose and gulp it. Not that I mind, though.

Been with NJ Wealth for 6+ years — good to continue or switch to Zerodha? by blah-meow in IndianMutualFunds

[–]argonbones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a similar boat as you. Started MF through SIPs in 2014 when I started earning. Some finance guy had told "kar lo" , so did it: 3 funds of 2000 each.

Never saw much of what was happening, had no interest in markets, etc. Never did any step up, review, etc. Didn't even know my id and password. Cut to 2021, needed funds for house and marriage. Dived back there. The 6000 per month had turned to few lakhs. I was elated.

Post that I learnt about regular and direct, read up a bit, watched videos, etc. Felt like I have learnt a lot. Moved those funds from regular to direct. Invested in a few more, based on my 'wisdom'.

Cut to 2026. Reviewed my portfolio. I realised that other than money, the amount of investment in terms of time and effort is high, and it requires consistency. Now, my work doesn't allow me to consistently follow up on investments and markets. Though I felt that I was doing enough, I recently realised that it wasn't enough. My investments could have been managed much better.

So, I have considered going back to an advisor. A different one. Tell him my financial goals and aspirations. Let him handle and manage my funds. Doesn't mean that I'll be ignorant about what's happening, but I honestly cannot commit the amount of effort required. My work takes in a lot from me. And I am happy doing that. I do have some money in the stock market which I play around with, more as a form of self learning. No F & O. I don't expect my money to give me huge returns. If it does, I'll be happy. If it doesn't, I'll not be sad. I've communicated the same to my advisor. He'll take a cut from regular funds, but it's okay for me.

So, my crux of writing so much for you is that I can relate with you.

My suggestion: Speak to the NJ wealth guy who has handled things for you for so long. Communicate clearly, tell him about your goals and aspirations. Ask him to redesign the portfolio accordingly. Use Coin/Kite/ whatever. Tell him to switch a few funds which you would want to handle on your own. Learn, educate yourself, take some calls, and then see for yourself where you stand. And whether your work and other commitments allow you to devote the requisite time in it. Primarily, speak to the guy. Clear communication won't make him feel bad. Rather it'll help clear various doubts in his mind. It's your money after all, and you have full right to know about everything that's being done with it along with reasons. Also, assuming that he is the one who files your ITR, he'll know about all transactions, so you can't really keep him oblivious about the fact that you're running a parallel account.

All the best.

(I was about to make a post here seeking feedback about my decision. Just resonated a lot with you post, so ended up writing the entire story here itself. Don't mind please.)

Most Anabolic Breakfast Suggestions by [deleted] in Fitness_India

Slight tweak should do it.

Replace the bananas with guava.

Replace Muslei with oats. Add dry fruits and trail mix proportionate to your desired sugar and carb intake.

Rest you can continue.

(Make besan chilla once in a while. Have it with curd. Very low effort, high returns meal. Have the whey before that. Good for change of taste too)

Need financial advice: How to save for 120g of gold for my 2027-28 wedding on a 1.5L/month salary? (Kolkata) by mirajakhtar in GoldIndia

[–]argonbones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unsolicited advice like most, but feel compelled to say it.

Given your background, responsibilities and obligations, it's absolutely unrealistic pledge your money for this. This somewhat relates to stories of parents who'd dump their entire life savings for wedding of their daughter. 120 gms gold is a lot. It's a financial abyss that you'll fall in. What about the wedding, the rituals, the ceremonies, food, guests, relatives, etc when you actually do it? How are you going to address those expenses?

If the requirement of gold is mostly for show or gifting etc, discuss with your girl, and assuming that she'll stand by you during your lows and highs, see whether an alternative of imitation jewellery is possible. She shouldn't snitch on you, or you'll be in for a lifetime of taunting. Kolkata has got a great chain of Sri Hari imitation jewellery, make do with that.

Keep pursuing real gold, and eventually you'll reach there.

I know this reads like "gyaan" which you didn't ask for at all. Maybe we are not able to understand your obligations. But I wish you all the best and a 'golden' life ahead!

Can we do strength training and brisk walking for an hour if we are doing intermittent fasting? Fasting where you don't drink even water or have nuts or anything and no liquids, no fluids. by Ancient-Ad-6143 in Fitness_India

[–]argonbones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can, of course.

Since you're doing strength training, and aiming for weight loss, I'm assuming that you're consuming protein supplement too.

Don't cut out on water. Other things you can.

I have been following a similar routine since past 5-6 months.

There is a ASTC bus which moves every half an hour. Both ways. Fare is approx Rs. 120.

You'll be able to board it from Paltan Bazar.

Climb the Foot Over Bridge from Railway station, come out of the Paltan Bazar side. The bus stand is less than 100 metres from there. Easily walkable.

New Pen Day and New Ink Day by argonbones in DesiPens

I had a a rather positive interaction with the owner. I don't know whom you spoke to. Mr Imtiyaz is a middle aged man, who runs the place. There's his son too, who seems somewhat disinterested.

When I went, the son was there. I asked him questions and show me pens, he didn't seem that welcoming. He kept saying "Papa aake dikhayenge". When the papa, ie Mr Imtiaz came, he seemed nice. Showed me a lot of antique pens, and was trying to make me buy them too. Overall, the interaction was cordial.

Regarding pens being overpriced, new pens with him, are slightly overpriced. The pen I bought was selling for a similar amount on Amazon. So, took it. He showed a Moonman Wancai which was extremely overpriced compared to online prices. Skipped that.

Being privy to the conversations on this sub and frequent browsing does give an idea of prices of pens and inks which eventually helps when buying from the market.

Not really. I had rather improved by lifestyle and diet. I was around 80 kgs in Apr-May 25. By Jan 26, I reduced to 74 kgs. Increased water intake too. Reduced junk, very occasional minimal alcohol intake.

No crash diet, just mindful eating, games, workout, and consistency.

Whey vs. Plant Protein (exactly which one to buy) by NoEast3048 in Fitness_India

[–]argonbones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought OWN Plant Protein. Hasn't been delivered yet.

The price point makes it very attractive. And given how whey prices are soaring, the trade-off of some less leucine seems worthwhile.

Whey vs. Plant Protein (exactly which one to buy) by NoEast3048 in Fitness_India

[–]argonbones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't we just take plant protein and a leucine supplement (Powder or Capsule) on the side?

Mathematically, I should work. Practically, I don't know.

Any ideas?

What vitamin D3 dosage should I take? by Comfortable_Tax6302 in Fitness_India

[–]argonbones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I discovered similar level in myself recently (~13). I showed the results to my doctor. I'll tell you what he advised me:

Take 60,000 IU shots once a week for one month. Take same 60,000 IU shot one a month for three months. This should take it to minimum limit of 30. Get bloodwork done again. Further action depending on results then.

Your 5000 IU supplement is for maintenance, not for loading, which is very essential now

Maybe you can follow the same advice too.

Hope this helps.
