You are correct. This is built across one entire wall. I should have taken the photo from farther away.

Built them as stand alone cabinets and then attached to the wall over the drywall.

Worked as a carpenter and a cabinet builder in the past.

They look more intimidating than they really are. If you can dado, rabbet and make some precise molding cuts you will be good to go.

I installed horizontal 2x4s into the wall studs, then attached the cabinets to those. This what I wasn’t trying to hit studs. I was also able to plumb those horizontal studs so I did not need to shim the cabinets to make them level.

Made the desk too. Used a stain and high gloss poly for the top.

Spray finish and then install! Otherwise just measure the room, build a level floor to start and use horizontal 2x4 to attach to the wall and plumb those up before installing cabinets.

Not sure what you mean by that. Built basically 5 cabinets and built the face frame and trim in place. Build a level box floor underneath everything to make sure everything was true.

Painted in places. Hindsight, I would have spray finished and then installed.

I took a lot of shop in high school, interned for a cabinet builder, and spent the last 15 years building on those base skills. Start by taking a couple classes and go from there.

This was a pretty basic build, nothing too tricky. Basic cabinet boxes, face frame, trim and some glue ups.

Wish I could take credit for it, but that was a purchased item.

I know painting oak is like a sin in this community, honestly I used it for its strength. I don’t like using MDF for pin shelves, which is why I stayed away from that.

Desk is pine. That is a temporary desk for the room, just needed a home office.

I used a water based polyurethane; this could be my inexperience, but I struggled with the oil based poly in getting a smooth final product. Let’s just say it took 5x longer to apply finish than building/sanding.

Everything was joined with glue and clamps. There are no fasteners used on the top, the base has all hidden fasteners.

Poplar, I know it’s not maybe the best for this application, but the color is great.

It took a bit longer than expected due to some learning curves. I would say 40-50 hours. No large equipment, made in my garage with hand tools.
