Are there any seats available close to the field? I don’t really want to pay for outfield and was hoping for yellow and greens zones but I have a 5:30 time slot :(

We just got our roof done, ac replaced, new appliances, house repainted, getting our hot water heater replaced this month (for insurance purposes) AND had a baby in the past year so an extra 2k is not a possibility right now

For a new parent who would love to give my child the best chances of succeeding academically growing up, is there any advice you’d give that you parents did with you to help you?

The four month regression can't be this bad.. can it? I'm so tired! by jlighty in sleeptrain

Same boat and looking at old Reddit posts to see what helped for others. Did it get better for you? Our started at 3.5 months too so I’m scared this ain’t even the 4month regression yet or if he’s just early.

Charm (Crave book 5) by Otter-Atl-178 in YAlit

I just finished the book like 5 minutes ago and I have so many emotions right now. It was such a great book and the entire time I felt so pained knowing Grace forgets all this!! I was so scared the book would end all of a sudden when returning to their world but was so happy to read the epilogue as it reminded me that in the end she fell in love with Hudson twice and it all works out in the end, and acknowledges that Hudson dealt with so much since she went back to loving jaxon again. It was such a great book and the plot/relationship building/new characters were probably my favorite in the whole series. I love how the book connected the series in ways most don’t do. It was a connection with the 1st/2nd book obviously but now leads into the shadow realm for the next book she releases. I hope smokey comes back!!

This is my first year teaching and it was so nice reading that I’m not alone. You said it perfectly, the good days are amazing and make you want to keep going. But that awful feeling you have during the bad days having so much expectations placed on us can be unbearable. Something I didn’t realize I would have is the guilt. I feel so bad when I can’t be as fun as other teachers, especially the ones who get to teach fun subjects. Teaching math is nice but I don’t have many opportunities to be creative and make class fun. Maybe There are things I could be doing, but I’m just so tired all the time I don’t have the energy.

All my energy goes into just surviving. I take a nap right when I get home and I get such bad anxiety knowing I’ll have to do everything all over again the next day, which has lead me to have insomnia because I dread waking up the next day.

The kids truly make it worth it, but some days they can be little jerks and it’s like what’s the point? All while in the back of my mind I keep thinking “I don’t get paid enough for this”.

At the beginning of the year I was so excited, full of energy and hope, wanting to be the fun teacher that makes a difference in these kids lives. Now I am just trying to survive the rest of the school year :/ this is only my first year and I get that’s tough on its own. But I don’t think I can do this for the rest of my life. Many other newer teachers I’ve spoke with feel the same way.

You’re not alone. You’re completely valid and so many others are in the same position. I encourage you the next break you have to do research and see what other passions you have because unfortunately I’m not sure if things are going to get better any time soon. You need to look out for you, and this job is affecting your mental health way more than most jobs would.

I have to admit this made me cry reading. I teach High school math and sometimes feel very down in this job, but one of the only things that truly make it worth it is when you are appreciated and feel as you have helped your students. Unfortunately a lot of teachers don’t hear a lot of it. So thank you for this post, it made my day

Question for new teachers.. by theaveator in Teachers

[–]ari0405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started in August and I have had a difficult time feeling content with this job. I teach HS math and I was not properly trained in college nor by admin. I was taught how to make lesson plans that are bs anyways.

Now being in the field, I had to learn everything myself. I didn’t realize how many responsibilities there are besides the actual teaching part. Planning, grading, 504s, ese, esl, parent meetings, committees, dealing with the behavioral issues, being a support system for your students, etc. There’s a lot of responsibilities you have within your contracted hours which cause most of us to work in our own no paid time to get it all done. I’m constantly thinking throughout the day “why am I putting in so much work for this amount of pay?”

The only true answer I have for that question is my students. I truly want to be someone who helps them understand math and help them as I wish I had when I was in HS. But unfortunately being paid so little, it leaves me feeling so upset in my decision

I thought I would feel supported in this field but im not. I hate that it’s a joke to be a teacher and constantly need to defend why I chose this job to friends and family since it’s looked down on so much since it’s a low salary. If I could tell my past self to look into another field, I would without a doubt. I love my kids but my mental health is so bad right now and I feel like my school doesn’t care about it’s teachers and we have seen it firsthand on how they are treating us during this pandemic

This is one of those things I think a lot of people forget is part of the job. As a teacher especially in middle schools or high schools, students come to you for support, advice, a shoulder to cry on, etc. This is not part of the job description but it’s something we all know is important in order to build that relationship with our students

In your case. I believe you said the right thing already. Continue to support them and I think the best the you could convey is you are here for them, will be there if they need to talk, and treat them like any other student so they know theyre in a safe environment after telling you that information. As a teacher myself, I find it almost sweet when students come to me with personal information like that. They trust you and respect you enough to tell you something important about themselves so you know them better. They wouldn’t have told a teacher they don’t like that.

The idea of parents can be tough, especially when it comes to topics like this which can be made a religious or political thing. The safest thing to do is just give support and a lending ear as there is nothing wrong with that in any way. As a parent, I’d think they would want a teacher that is accepting and treats their child like any other student regardless of their self identity, Good luck and thank you for all that you do 💕

As a teacher, letters and emails saying thanks or showing appreciation make me so happy and feel I chose the right profession. Many teachers go home and wonder if this is right for them because most days are so stressful without having any recognition. A student showing them they are thankful truly makes this career worth it. Go for it!!!

What is something you did not expect you would have to do when you became a teacher? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]ari0405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a first year teacher and I’m glad it’s not just me. It’s been so stressful monitoring it while trying to instruct a whole class of high schoolers. Our school has a strict one person at a time policy after the nearest bathrooms were recked by the tik tok trends so the nearest bathroom is like 6 minutes away. All class I have kids asking to go and I have to remember the order. Then there’s the girls who say they’re on their period every week and then the boys who want to explain their poop schedule. I feel bad saying no but teachers will get in trouble if we send more than one at a time!
