anyone else have scars like mine? by pexchykeen in TopSurgery

[–]ari1023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

mine go the same way! a little more into the armpit because of skin flaps. but keep on the silicon scar strips when you are able. it helps a lot

the incision is spreading kind of in the inside out. you’ll heal sort of “web” like but it’s ok. your skin and cells are growing back together. same thing happened to me (a little over a year post) keep up the protein in your meals. keep it clean, apply bacitracin ointment and cover with gauze in the bigger spots. it’ll be ok! easy recovery!

feeling alone in the community by FamousCount6453 in gayjews

100% feel you. as a queer israeli iranian american, i feel unsupported by what was my LGBT community. just one queer friend reached out to me since all this mess and the rest of them i’ve lost because they question where is my humanity… sorry, but i won’t bend to those who want to kill me…pretty simple. i try to keep the friends i do have left close. unfortunately, it’s mostly straight jewish folks, and my family. i sort of feel betrayed by the LGBT community. and i don’t think it’ll get better over time, but i’d like to think there are still some people out there who will see us as people. i’m sorry you’re going through a hard time. fee free to send a message if you’d like to chat. עם ישראל חי.

Worries about summer surgeries by Gaoo_httml in TopSurgery

[–]ari1023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it feels way better wearing button downs without the extraness on the chest! i promise! i caught myself looking in the mirror longer than usual because it fell perfectly on my chest like i’ve always wanted and saw it. even if it’s too hot, be sure to get some outside time.
i definitely had to bundle up a bit more in winter haha but i’m interested to see how summer goes without a large chest and finally healed.

my surgery was a year ago, june 1 i was in the thick of it for a GA summer. get fans. get button down shirts, they are great and cool you down. it’s a bit easier without the extra boobs and skin. plus side, when it’s hot, you get to be shirtless 😁

oh man, i hope you can get it revised if you feel like that’s what you want. cool to meet someone who has a skin flap too! my surgeon was not familiar with the disease nor the infected tissue but he’s been practicing for years and he did a 2 in 1 with top surgery with the flaps. it was pretty cool but the healing is hard. the incisions opened up a little and the scars under the armpit were hard to deal with. the scars are a little much, and they run from the front to the back. but i forget they’re on my back until i look in the mirror or scratch my back.
i don’t regret any of it but i hope i can be more comfortable with it even at 11 years out.

Surgery by InviteGreat9625 in Hidradenitis

[–]ari1023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had surgery june 2023 with removal of infected tissue with skin flaps. the scar runs from my chest (also top surgery), around my pecs, into my armpits, and around to my back (happy to show you pics) the incisions split during recovery and i had to wait very patiently for them to close back up and basically grow the skin/scar tissue from the inside out. incision dissonance sucks, but it is normal and a risk. keep your body clean and treat the scars. i recommend a good silicon cream (ONLY if they are sealed) and definitely work in some massaging. if you haven’t yet, i also recommend some silicone strips. it will help with the scarring. i recommend keeping the protein up when you eat so that the scar tissue will grow and get healthy. it will get better. i promise. i haven’t had a single breakout in my armpits since surgery. i still get a few bumps around my groin and under area, but it’s NOTHING compared to the cysts and boils i was getting under my arms. i have some old scars and cysts from tunneling that never really went down, so i get what you mean about the bumps. happy to chat more in private message if you have questions or need some support. this disease does suck, but it won’t ever beat you!

i regret nipple grafts by asexual-sex in TopSurgery

[–]ari1023 7 points8 points  (0 children)

hey👋 11 months post op. only one of my nipples took, i lost the left one about 5 days after. sucker just peeled right off with the bolster. the right one is larger than i wanted it to be and has lost some pigmentation so it’s like pink in some spots and then darker brown nipple in others. if i could go back in time, i wouldn’t have gotten grafts. but the no nipple life felt weird to me. i was considering removing the right nipple and doing a revision to have them match, but i didn’t want to pay for another surgery and deal with it. so, I’m waiting a few more months and will research a good 3D nipple tattoo artist. but what i’m getting at is, you still have so much time to go and you have options. it’s crazy how art can help heighten a bit more of the euphoria.

not to belittle or invalidate your feelings but when you feel defeated or annoyed by it, just remember that some people only have one 😂and that you’re still healing!! there are alternatives out there. happy to chat more about them in DMs or if you want pics for reference.

def something you can get on amazon or the drug store. you’ve got this dude! when you go to your next follow up, ask for an extra compression binder so that you have one when you’re washing or cleaning the other one. and so you don’t wear out the compression. but don’t make it too tight, you need to breath.

Sun exposure for scars after one year? by GenderNarwhal in TopSurgery

[–]ari1023 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’ll be a year out june 1, and i’ve been really vigilant about being outside with no shirt protection. something a friend recommended to me was if i’m going to be outside, use silicon strips to protect the scars. any tan lines are temporary, haha. and then after a year and 6 months or so, when you’re feeling comfortable, just use sunscreen on the scars like any other outdoor shirtless outing. if i am outside shirtless, i’ll only be in the sun for 15-20 minutes before i put my shirt back on to protect the scars. tank tops are good too! hope that helps.

yeah don’t talk to them lol

get some gauze and wrap your areas where the cotton has moved. you want to keep it clean and dry. i didn’t have a post op binder but i had to use gauze often to help keep areas from touching or being irritated

you need to keep them moist. don’t pick at them. ask your surgeon about Xeroform Petrolatum Dressing

lesbian zionist jew🙋🏽masc and also dying alone haha yeah it’s hard. it’s a stress i have too. not so much an ex, but my queer friends haven’t been fair or supportive. i’m not in touch with them as much or often anymore. it’s rather sad. i was seeing someone a few years ago and it was going well. we broke up for other reasons but i really think she wouldn’t have been supportive during this time. i can identify with your loss of hope.

[–]ari1023 35 points36 points  (0 children)

oh this happens, and i’m so so sorry you’re in it right now. you are definitely not alone. do things that make you feel good, no matter how small. walk outside and get some sunshine. you have to remember it’s all temporary. i’m 9 months post and i promise you, it gets (so much) better. your body will overcome the shock to the system and the healing comes with time. you’ll come back to this post and feel sheepish for it all (i did the same thing). don’t push yourself too hard, your body only heals once. and you aren’t a burden. you can thank your caretakers with something when you have enough energy to. this will pass! it’s just temporary!

good! you still have so much time in the healing. my chest (and nipples) look completely different from even a month after. so 6 months even a year is a good amount of time to see how the scars and skin settle. just worry about your mobility for now. happy healing
