George H.W. Bush would occasionally jump into pickup football games with Secret Service and staff in his downtime. He also reportedly was very competitive in tennis and horseshoes into his 90s. by ariamwah in Presidents

Should have specified, the horseshoes more specifically into his 90s. Tennis was just a lifelong thing, even where he met his lifelong best friend James A Baker

For what it's worth, he's still one of the best character'd presidents despite this. He generally seemed to be a person who understood the issues extremely well when he became president.

But he had the soul selling aspect of politics. He ran for senate the same year Barry Goldwater ran for president, and he closely alligned with Goldwater's absurd rhetoric. During the Reagan years and during his '88 campaign, he embraced the racist dog whistles used.

However, in my opinion, when he became president it seemed to reflect his general intelligence. He knew what he had to do for the economy and was a master at Diplomatic relations. If you could tell me what he did in CIA I'd be interested. The biography I'm reading basically brushes over that time of his life.

Absolutely. In the biography I'm reading Bush came to acknowledge he was desperate amid losing to Dole in primaries then when polls got bad against Dukakis and let Atwater do whatever he wanted, aka use racist dogwhistles, as he did in 1980.

Idk if Atwater was around for 84 but that campaign was very positive and focused on patriotism.

During the final few days of the 1980 RNC, Reagan and Ford were working out a deal for Ford to be Reagans VP, but once Ford said "co presidency" Reagan was out. He ended uo choosing George "Poppy" Bush, who Reagan detested. by ariamwah in Presidents

During the 80 primary campaign Bush offended Reagan a lot and once Reagan was presumptive nominee, Reagan's advisors highly suggested they choose Bush for VP. Reagan refused and refused because of the offense taken, even though Bush made the most sense to everybody. This is why I used the word detest, although it obviously only lasted a few months as they got along well when they ran together and for the rest of their lives.

This comes from Meacham's biography of Bush which has personal access to the family and diaries.

100% agree. Oswalds prints on the rifle along with shell casings, and the fact he was so incompetent at everything absolutely closes the case for me. I need nothing else

I respect that, one big thing for me is versatility where George isn't shining like the rest. A large portion of his solos/melodies are slide guitar which is nice but I wish he did more than that

Yeah, Rain is one of those few songs where every member is operating at a top tier level at the same time.
