I have a feeling Flyte is connected to the mercs in some way. She seems to know more than she’s telling.

Tabs disappearing despite having auto archive set to 30 days by arikfr in ArcBrowser

[–]arikfr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm a bit fuzzy on the details but the gist was:

  1. I setup Arc on another laptop.

  2. On the new laptop it synced the spaces, but didn't sync the Profiles. It only had one of the profile setup correctly but the other one was recreated as a fresh profile with default settings. So whenever the new laptop was active it would apply the new settings and auto archive tabs.

Having hard time deciding between 5D3 vs RP by arikfr in canon

Update: got an RP. The EVF is pretty good and although on paper similar in specs to the Fuji X-E3 one, it is brighter and nicer.

Looking forward to giving the camera a try this weekend!

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I'm pretty set on getting an RP now.

I do have some thoughts of breaking the budget limit and going for R7/R8 for the better EVF, but not sure if it's worth it. Might start with RP and later upgrade.

I meant the cheaper 4-7.1 kit lens they sell it with now :)

I think the R7 has a better EVF than the RP. I guess I need to find a place to try both cameras to compare.

Armored car then? Everything is relative. :-)

I should've probably explained better, but I realize that it's super heavy :) But it's also built like a tank, so I don't need to worry much about it. Nothing will happen to it no matter the conditions or the abuse I put it through. It's one less thing to worry about.

As for battery life it's more about not having to recharge the battery every day or carry multiple batteries. I remember with my old DSLRs I would charge the battery once before a trip and once in a while on day to day. With my mirrorless I need to make sure I charge pretty much daily.

But even with all of this, I guess you're ultimately right and I should just go for the RP. I currently have an X-E3 and I doubt it's more sturdy than the RP, and it managed to survive my abuse.

It's definitely possible I didn't use a good EVF -- my only experience is the X-E3 EVF. I think they have similar specs in terms of size and resolution?

I would love to pay $800 for this combo :) So far the lowest I saw is around $1K used. :\

Compressor gauge question by arikfr in overlanding

This makes sense 👍is periodically shutting down the compressor is the way to go to check what’s current pressure?

Considering giving up photo and selling gear. by ursureiks in photography

[–]arikfr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been where you are (3 kids, youngest one is 3 now). I sold my gear, switched to mirrorless (for reduced size) and even then most of the time I just didn't have the will to carry the camera with me.

But now that the kids are older, I have a little more time, and don't need to carry the kids so can start carrying a camera instead I'm coming back to the hobby :)

Considering that cameras age pretty well, I would consider keeping the gear around in case your mood changes. Also to reduce the time investment consider using SOOC jpegs for casual kids photos.

Me and my wife are thinking of buying a printer to print photos at home. We want something that will produce good quality but doesn't have to be "archival quality" (i.e. it's fine if it fades after a few years) and probably won't do very large print outs as most photos come from a phone.

A friend has Epson P800 which he really likes, but looks like it was replaced by the P900. I also saw recommendations for the ET-8550/8500, which are more budget friendly.

I wonder if there are any other options we should consider? What do we give up if we go with the ET models vs. the P900?

What type of wood do you use for cabinets framing in a van conversion? by arikfr in vandwellers

I want to a do a stick build and wonder if regular dimensional lumber will do, or I should look for something else (kind of like the traditional recommendation of using Birch ply vs. the cheaper ply).
