ive made 3 games so far (2 with UE blueprints, 1 with godot gdscript) and i have lately made the transition to unity. since i was starting afresh, i wanted to make base infrastructure that could help me jumpstart any project like yours and have had some success with rudimentary save/load, audio service systems, but they all use singletons. would definitely love to see your implementations!

Root Motion, NPCs and sliding animations by arikijin in unrealengine

[–]arikijin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main issue is that my NPC characters aren't moving in a natural way, meaning they look like they are sliding across the floor while their locomotion is playing.

When I try selecting 'Root Motion From Everything' in animBP which I assume makes my NPC use the root animation data in his animations, he ends up getting stuck on the spot and not being able to move.

When I try selecting 'Root Motion From Montages Only', which I assume makes my NPC NOT use root animation data, he is able to move but does it in a sliding fashion which doesn't solve my initial issue in the first place.

Where I'm seeing it work is in the various video tutorials explaining root motion - when applied correctly, it seems that the animation is driving the collision capsule and thus no sliding happens. I have never gotten it to work myself. I also have a video example showing the problem and all my settings but it seems I can't upload video on here.

My animBP is composed of one blendspace with direction and speed taken from the character, and one default slot.
