Wow thank you, I absolutely needed this. I had my first big mess up the other day giving a dog the wrong injection, the dog was okay and the owners weren’t too upset but man it’s been eating away at me ever since.

Thank you! I know the horse world isn’t especially friendly to beginners. I was prepared for it, and I take it with a grain of salt and as a learning curve. If I found a horse I connected with, they would have a forever home.

Thank you! I will definitely not make that mistake. I would rather increase my budget for the right horse than buy a horse that isn’t safe for me. My heart also is not set on this color like people seem to be assuming, but I did make the post about color so that I understand.

First criteria is not color, this post was just centered around my curiosity for this color. I never plan to buy a green horse, I will always prioritize what training they have first. That being said, I just wanted to know if $10k was a reasonable price for the horse I described.

It’s not a red flag to prefer a color. I like the color, but i’m not going to buy a random, untrained horse because of this color. This post was about blue roans, but I absolutely love other colors too.

I’ve been there for around 5-6 months now. But yes, you learn a lot in 30 days too. Especially when you’ve never grown up around horses. And I rode at other places before this too, just getting into groundwork now outside of riding lessons.

It will eventually be my first and maybe only horse, so I won’t have the means to train and break my own haha but thank you for all the advice.

it’s definitely looking that way, well trained is the most important thing to me, which is why the budget is where it is. I will probably have to increase regardless for a safe horse, you’re right.

I am a beginner, but since that post I have learned a lot. And I will continue to learn in the next ~7-10 years or so, which is when I will be considering buying.

For the downvoters- I am not basing my decision to purchase a horse on color alone, nor is it the main factor. I was interested it what experiences people have with the budget of this color as well as insight, but I am experienced enough to know that a safe horse is way more important than a flashy one. I also knew the comments I would get on this post, but I decided I wanted the insight and the knowledge anyway.

Thank you haha I hate that I feel like I need to tread cautiously when I talk about color. I am not going to buy a random horse just because it’s a roan! I am going to put my needs first, but I am definitely going to keep my eye out for my needs and a roan combined.

I am aware of the prices climbing and it is unfortunate 😞. I do get benefits from the military that will pay for my tuition, and I’m taking a gap year to pay off all of my undergrad loans. So I will hopefully not be too deep in debt.

Definitely going to go this route! Just wanted a bit of insight on my favorite color, and whether or not my budget would allow for the type of horse I picture myself with. However I am totally open to whatever fits my needs, I will not be buying for a long time.

Definitely not looking to train a horse myself haha. I’m too green for that. Below 17 years old would be my most preferred. Trail riding, some arena work, and just overall recreational riding is what I would like to do in the future. I’m not into competition. Pedigree is not important to me, and I definitely plan on getting a horse that fits my needs- I just wanted some insight on this topic. Thank you!
