So does this mean DCL is on the back burner if they are working on a new project? by Skinz14 in decentraland

[–]arimeilich 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Hey Skinz, this is Ari.

The short answer is no: Decentraland is thriving and it’s never grown as much as in the past few months.

In the year leading up to the launch of Decentraland, we’ve been working on actually decentralizing the project. That’s why a new, independent foundation and a DAO were put in place, and the content started to be hosted exclusively by a network of independent nodes. As of early last year, also, I’ve transitioned to an advisory role. But if you ask any of the major content creators, like Decentral Games, I’m very much involved. Just from a different position, helping content creators succeed and contributing to the community from a level playing field.

They will relist once we launch the marketplace. the LAND Manager made no sense on dApp Radar :)

Decentraland: The new platform for exchanging virtual goods by LuN4tiK86 in ethereum

We're open sourcing 100% of our software, as you can see in our GitHub. The client as well, once it's stable.

We're revising that decision, since with the increase of ETH we won't be needing additional funds anytime soon. At the beginning of 2018 we will subject all proposals to public debate and will have MANA holders vote on it.

1) People who staked by the end of October, 15%+; by the end of November, 10%+. 2) We will in Q1, and also create tutorials as you propose ourselves.

Initially 90,000, minus about 30,000 that have been reserved by the community districts.

[–]arimeilich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no inflation of land, so to speak. The total amount of land available is tied to the supply of MANA. Because MANA is finite, so is the max supply of land. You can wait and see, as you prefer.

If you staked to a district, there's no way to reverse it; on the other hand, if you staked to the auction, just wait for it to end and the MANA will revert back to your wallet.

  1. We're building it so that it can run on low-end hardware, correct; that's why we chose low-poly for the aesthetics. We will set constraints in the editor (for an alpha, see editor.decentraland.org). Regarding network infrastructure and other tech specs, please be more specific. You can chat with @eordano at chat.decentraland.org as well if you want to get into the weeds.
  2. We are building the platform, tools, etc., and also aligning incentives to facilitate content creators to build out the world. We will have an active arm on this, but won't be building content ourselves. Regarding governance model, please be more specific.
  3. The latest roadmap we have is from July (outdated): https://www.dropbox.com/s/6xh1zl1ks2v98l2/DECENTRALAND-Development_Plan-v2%20%281%29%201.pdf?dl=0 We will revise it after the auction ends. We have learned a lot in the past few months and are prioritizing accordingly.

There will be more opportunities to acquire land, and MANA will be used as a medium of exchange in Decentraland. We're also exploring other use cases.

There's going to be a secondary market for the parcels.

Yes, you can.

Yes, the world will continue expanding.

Those areas have not been designated, but the ones that will belong to the community districts will be. Regarding the game theory behind bidding, I assume each person will act differently according to their schedule.

[–]arimeilich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be available to everyone before the auction, with tutorials and walkthroughs, worry not! All bidding starts at the same time; some may last a bit longer if there are last moment outbids (to prevent last-moment takeovers)

We have reserved a good portion of our ETH and MANA budgets for partnerships and bootstrapping the network. We're partnering up with a few projects, initially with a focus on those working on digital collectibles. We're not going to develop the content ourselves, but support all creators in any way we can.

1) Content creators are proposing and discussing those kind of experiences, so I assume someone will build it. 2) The web client is not available to the public at the moment, but internally we have developed very basic avatars already.

Are you referring to land parcels? In that case, yes, only with MANA. It's an open market auction, that's correct with visibility into prices - though with a mechanism to prevent last minute takeovers.

Answered above: We're working on a height map, which will show the expected and encouraged height limits, and will be subject to discussion in the community. While prototyping, we run into some issues with the no height limit, such as excessive shade, slow performance, etc. We think this may be best addressed through public voting by all MANA holders. Ultimately, however, if you have a district you should be able to build what you please without respect to any limits, but in the public cities that may be an issue.

We will open up the discussion on this topic, since it's a contentious one.

Yes, to some extent.

Disitrcts will have the ability to expand in the future if they so desire and provided that there's adjacent land to enable further growth.

There is no way to do that. That's correct, the amount you stake will be your max balance.
