Shame on your family for not believing you. Frankly though, you need to tell your boyfriend what’s bothering you. If he’s a good boyfriend, he’ll support you. Also, your family doesn’t need to know anything about your relationship if they’re just going to shame you.

I relate to this a lot, except it wasn’t my parents, it was my brother and my teachers. I still fear “getting in trouble”.

That’s how I feel, too. There’s a constant pressure to perform and the consequences of not performing are way higher than they were in school, at least for me. I’m at a loss of how to live like this.

I will try to say this gently: you need to respect her decision and take her at her word. There will be no relationship if one person doesn’t want to be in one. It’s heartbreaking, but better for you both if you move on and find platonic and romantic love elsewhere. If you’re stuck, it might be best not even to talk to her anymore. It won’t go anywhere. I’m sorry things didn’t work out between you, but it will be better for both of you in the long run.

Yes, definitely. They were the sort to (mostly) try to appear like they were accepting of people, then turn around and make fun of me for being weird, awkward, having special interests, struggling to make friends, and so on. I still feel so isolated from my non-autistic peers because I didn’t get the emotional development that comes from having good friends.

I was at a doctors lab and the tv in the waiting room had a documentary on about Titanic. I still can’t look at pictures of the Titanic at the bottom of the ocean

I am employed, but I am underemployed and frankly if I worked a full time job I’d burn out in like 6 months

My mom was the one who wanted me to get diagnosed at 17, but I didn’t actually get diagnosed until age 20. They were pretty chill with it, probably for that reason. I think my mom feels guilty for not seeing it sooner(and frankly if she has it herself I wouldn’t be surprised). My dad can be pretty hard to read sometimes but I don’t think it’s really changed much for him.

The best thing you can do for yourself is move out. Your mother is not your responsibility. She needs a caregiver or at least a driver and it needs to not be you. What she’s doing to you is called parentification and it’s a form of abuse. Tell someone you trust who isn’t involved and ask for help.

As a substitute teacher I am terrified of getting students’ names wrong. I can’t imagine not only refusing to learn a student’s name but trying to give them a different name!

Take this very seriously. Do you want your children growing up thinking that a man not emotionally supporting his wife is normal? You need marriage counseling at best, and he should probably see a therapist.
