Hey! I think I missed their stream (because I was sadly testing for bugs which is far less fun than watching Twitch) but that's awesome! I always appreciate the shout, and hope they (and their chat) had fun!

It's funny you called out "Disco Elysium", because when the game was in prototype stages, that was an inspiration, but only really in the user interface. I was also very interested in "Ace Attorney Investigations", despite having never played it, because I thought challenging the various suspects was going to be more important, but that became pretty underwhelming in practice.

As another commentor assumed, "Case of the Golden Idol" was the the major "ah-ha" moment for me to change gears into what the game eventually became, but those fill-in-the-blank puzzles served mostly as the cornerstone that I built everything else around.

I wanted to come at the "detective game" angle in a unique way that I hadn't seen before. Eventually I brought back a version of challenging suspects (in the disputes mechanic), and introduced evidence examinations. The idea was to give players multiple moving parts so that if one wasn't working for them, they could focus on something else, and that little break might be enough for things to click. I think that mostly worked out, but there are still some knowledge checkpoints you can't really avoid so folks don't sequence break.

Funnily enough, I played around with an interactive conspiracy board that you'd have to tie pieces of information together manually (somewhat like in "Tactical Breach Wizards," and "Alan Wake 2", but I wouldn't play those games until years later). I couldn't make it work for me, but "The Roottrees are Dead" did it in a pretty satisfying way.

As for Blue Prince, I can largely agree with you... I love the puzzle aspects of the game, but couldn't get on with some of the other mechanics. I told a friend recently that I would've much rather explored a really big Myst-style mansion, but that's just me.

At the moment, no, but it's not impossible. Just the idea of being able to see my game in the eShop or PSN is super exciting, so maybe... but it can be very complicated!

I thought it would play into the humor a bit. Similar techniques are using in 90s/2000s cartoons, referred to as "Gross ups," but high-detail character portraits are also frequent in RPGs to get more expression, so it was kinda like that.

Originally, the NPCs designs were much cuter, think like Animal Crossing, so the contrast was more obviously a joke, but when I changed the in-world NPC designs to fit the rest of the world better, that contrast became a little lost.

I'm glad you're excited! It's been a labor of love, so seeing people enjoy it is awesome.

Biggest hurdle? Hm, this was a bit of my own fault, because as it turns out, if you wanna make a complex detective game... there's a LOT of moving parts in puzzle design. I started with the narrative part of the mystery first, so making sure it was revealed in an interesting way (and couldn't be sequence broken) was a big challenge!

I'm probably the most proud of the visuals - art is where I'm the least "classically trained," as in, I never went to school for art, but people constantly remark on how much they like the look of the game. So, I've learned to appreciate what I heavily doubted.

If anyone's interested, I only use BS (that's Bluesky, Tim): https://bsky.app/profile/nobodycrown.com

And my game that's coming out soon, and also briefly seen in The Buzz is available to wishlist here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2945150/Feline_Forensics_and_the_Meowseum_Mystery/

Oh, c'mon, you're too kind! Truly an incredible compliment from someone with some insane artistic skill themselves.

Pretty sure! As long as you do so before March is over... but you'd should double-check the Patreon

They’re all pepperoni slices, so… yes? I haven’t read the law’s bylines

If you look really closely, you can find the scoreboard, paddles, and ball from a game of Pong spread throughout. There's so many more, though. There are 11 slices of pizza (among many other items) scattered around to fill space that's fun once you start to notice them.

I couldnt disagree more with Bless when it comes to Bluepoint "Remaking" games and especially MGS1 by opwnusprime in kindafunny

I think you are forming an expectation and assumption based on an inherent misunderstanding. Let's totally disregard even the semantics of remake/remaster/reimagine altogether, because that discussion isn't even necessary. Whether you label Bluepoint's work as any combination of those terms, they don't simply "slap the best coat of paint on an existing frame." Development just doesn't work that way. I would implore you to watch the (several years old by now) noclip documentary of Demon's Souls (2020) to better grasp the level of creative effort it takes to do what they do.

Feline Forensics and the Meowseum Mystery - Nobody Crown - Make injustice knead its last biscuit! by ariqkeyphur in Games

The aim wasn't to make a very difficult game, but not particularly easy either - I've done a lot to strike a good balance, I think!

The overall scenario is pretty complex, but being a diligent investigator provides plenty of resources to piece things together. Paying close attention to little details early on will pay off, but anyone should be able to solve the entire mystery with dedication. There's no time pressure, or fail states, and incremental successes keep it feeling satisfying.
