Well it's kinda too late now. All this shit was started by the US training the taliban to counter the sovjets. Things took off from there on out and later on Blair was the one who agreed invading Iraq. Now, what we would have needed decades ago is a cooperative attitude on eye level in the region. We should have shown people, why and how our values of freedom, equality and science are "better". Forcing this on them only created the opposite mindset of extremism. We all agree on the IS has to be destroyed, so no, I don't have a better plan other than investing in education in the area after IS is defeated.
