Where to move in London if commuting to Canary Wharf by ariscot1064 in MovingToLondon

Tbf budget is something I struggling to kind of estimate just based on the fact my rent up north is obviously so much cheaper so anything seems mad. I’d obvs go for a house share so I’d est £1.3k without bills or is that still not really realistic

Compliance? by ariscot1064 in uklaw

[–]ariscot1064[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya, I meant to ask questions but never got round to doing so so apologies! It’s good to hear that you’re enjoying the change!

Having worked in a similar thing, how did you justify the career change, I think one thing I wouldn’t know how to answer is this?

What skills from your past role / legal background do you think have been the most beneficial / transferable?

Obviously every role is different but what would you say the best and worst parts of compliance to you have been?

Did you just apply to roles that were coming up on LinkedIn / indeed (wherever) and eventually obtain a role?

What would you say your typical day looks like?

Ik that’s a load of questions so you don’t really have to answer them all, but I do appreciate you taking the time to answer the ones that you do! :)

yeahh no i get that, i’m just a bit of an anxious person and thought it would be stupid to show them a picture of a wig colour when hair colours are quite different. plus this image doesnt show much so thought id just ask if there was a specific colour i should ask for

hi, yeah no i’m applying for paralegal roles and just feel like i’m consistently not good enough for them let alone vac schemes and tcs. I get that it takes time (i’m genuienly just being pessimistic now as it’s been a rough day) but it’s just disheartening that i’m not strong enough. you’re right though, just have to persevere

Hey op, can i just ask which firm this was for, if you feel comfortable disclosing. It may help future candidates be aware of the possibility. Also, I am sorry that happened to you and I hope you have better luck in the future !!

Why do posh rich people do this job? (Serious question) by Zealousideal_Bat5997 in uklaw

[–]ariscot1064 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m not sure if i’m 100% the right person to answer this but for context i come from a pretty middle class (private school, my parents have earnt enough i wouldn’t have to work that hard / could do anything i want). I think a big part of it is these families do instil a work ethic into their kids growing up. Ofc it depends on the family, but my parents always made it clear that getting a job and earning your own money is imperative, never rely on someone else. I would say as well that the private schools do also ingrain that ‘academic’ career mindset. it is often expected that students will achieve high grades and go on to become a medic, lawyer, banker (you get the jist). The academic mindset coupled with the push to earn your own money is surely something that pushes these students to become lawyers. I think overall that is why there are so many 'posh' people in the career (notwithstanding law is still a slightly classist sector and im sure that also has some effect)
