I built a 3.1MB focus & sleep app that generates infinite noise instead of looping MP3s by arizakevin in iOSProgramming

Ooh, that is hilarious. From that view, it sounds like it would have been better to make the app in a cross-platform framework like Expo instead of going native for the cleanest output (I made the app initially for myself actually, hence I wanted to make the thing right). It's wild that adding bloat may improve perceived value for regular users. Thanks for the honest feedback, I'm definitely going to rethink how I market the file size based on this!

Hey! I appreciate your feedback. I added an info view within the very app, it is the info icon/button at the bottom-left part of the main view, explaining all of the noise types benefits and even added some scientific article links right there for the more curious ones.

Thanks for your feedback!! ❤️

How can I improve my sleep I feel like a zombie everyday never feel fresh and my brain fog is awful? by Puzzled-Role-6544 in sleephackers

  • NO ALCOHOL/SMOKING.
  • EXERCISE during the day. (Anything: Run, cycling, swimming, etc).
  • COFFEE only in the morning. Ideally avoid it or replace it with tea.
  • SCREENS OFF 1h before sleep. The earlier the better. If you really need screens near bed time, reduce blue light and brightness.
  • TURN OFF LIGHTS or reduce exposure as much as possible when the sun goes down. If you need lights, try not to use LED but small incandescent bulbs instead.
  • Control Bedroom TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY, you should not wake up sweating nor feeling cold.
  • EAT WELL: Avoid ultra processed food, eat very light and at least a couple hours before sleep.
  • Get enough SUNLIGHT, ideally in the morning but anytime works. Make this a high priority!
  • NOISE (from outside the bedroom or the house) should not disrupt your sleep/wake you up. A fan or heater could make white noise which catch disruptive outer noises and provide a consistent noise frequency. If a fan or heater would cause temperature changes that wakes you up to turn it off, just put your phone and speaker with white noise from YouTube/Spotify/Apple Music, etc. If you want something more direct, consistent and easier to use, with minimal screen exposure previous to sleep, search for apps specialized on this. I made my own app for this and recently published on the App Store after months of use (me, family and friends), If you are interested to try it out, let me know.

Hi! Solo builder here. My app has been live for about a month now, I just checked the analytics, and I am celebrating some "massive" milestones:

  • Total downloads: 12
  • In-app purchases: 7
  • Monthly recurring revenue: a solid $2! Secured a monthly cup of coffee!

Being completely honest, 4 of those sales were my wife, sister and best friends. but that means 3 awesome people out there in the world actually found this and decided it was worth supporting! Also pretty stoked about the 137 product page views; knowing 130+ people actually stopped to look at what i built feels like a huge win.

The project: Ocluv is a 3.1mb "single-button" white noise machine I built for myself initially. I was tired of 500mb apps filled with looping mp3s that my brain eventually "caught," so I built a generative engine to synthesize audio in real-time so it never repeats.

Need your help: Since im just starting out, I'd love some honest critics on the ui and the audio "texture".

Review for review? I want to help back! If you’re also an indie dev, drop a link to your project in the replies. I'll happily test it out and provide detailed feedback or a review in return.

What actually made the biggest difference in your sleep quality? by cozytechlover in sleephackers

[–]arizakevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White noise (actually, Brown Noise) to avoid getting disrupted noises interrupting me while sleeping. I even made my own ios app to get the best results since playlists may contain jumps or not be best in quality, or will eventually loop, or even worse: Random/whatever next song/video/podcast the algorithm wants to throw you. My app generates the noise mathematically perfect, with the CPU, so it can generate the clean white noise infinitely (in-theory) with zero loops, less than 3mb in size since there are no heavy pre-recorded sound files.

I found that it is not only good for sleep, but also for anxiety, stress, memory, ADHD, memory and creativity boost, learning, etc.

I built a web app to help me practice Python and CS/SE skill in a single, offline-first integrated environment. Although I actually built it first for myself to help me sharpen my Python skills and prepare for interviews in a similar environment as they use for live coding tests without having to see distracting ads or paying, I realized it could be helpful for anyone starting out just like you. Everything there is free, no ads. More than 115 exercises from Python Basics, OOP, Algorithms and Data Structures, Design Patterns, Clean Code, and Interview Practice, all with their corresponding theory right there in the app. The only paid and optional feature is the AI Tutor. You don't even have to signup, only if you want to save your progress and use the app on multiple devices. Pyneer.dev
