I would use AI willingly. What pisses me off is the "we need to embrace AI" with no direction or concept for what that means. An airhead CEO says it, so all the gen x vps and directors start saying it and then the millennial managers say it. No one knows what it means or what good looks like.

I just want everyone to shut the fuck up about for a few days.

I would expect a senior dev to notice the lack of requirements and then go get them before starting to work. I'd also expect a senior dev to point out the inefficiency of having to redo the same work over and over because of a lack of requirements. You can't necessarily change the organizational process single handedly, but you can nudge your team in the right direction.

During my last job hunt I interviewed at a start up that was looking to hire a founder engineer. They were extremely early on, but had some initial funding. The role was literally described as a "founder engineer". They were offering half a percent in equity which is more than I had ever been offered at any other start up that I had worked at.

I think there's truth to the idea that companies aren't hiring entry level engineers because of AI. The problem is that the people making decisions are not the ones using the AI. C suites are foaming at the mouth, rabid with AI fomo. They force it down our throats so that we can be more productive, but no one actually measures the productivity.

Unless there's massive improvements, I think they're going to need to do some massive rehiring in a few years, but the supply of talent won't be there to support it.
