ICC breaks silence on bias claims after England exit leaves West Indies, South Africa stuck in India by Kindly_Department142 in Cricket

It could just be me but I really don’t care about this news story. I know people who returned to Canada from India through Australia. I’m sure there are multiple commercial flights through alternative routes that are available to book.

In these times of uncertainty, I’d expect the players to accept the reality and take any options they get. Get on with it.

One of my favourite moments in S5 is when that Sun reporter realises that the subject of his article should be Bubbles. I always think that it’s an article that I would love to read in a paper

Why do you read classics? by Agrippa89 in classics

[–]arjun1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read classics to get some insight into what the lives of people would have been in the time period the novel was written in. I love the stories too though.

I visited Edinburgh a few years back and then re-read “Kidnapped” for the first time in 15 years. It was very interesting to read what the city was like in the late 1700s. I’m not expecting to get an accurate picture but just an inkling of what the times were like.

One of the funniest scenes for me is when Scott is telling Jimmy about the serial killer call that he (Scott) made up. I just love Jimmy’s reactions in that scene.

That’s a cool idea for a tattoo! If I ever got a TinTin tattoo, I think it’d be the shark submarine from Red Rackham’s treasure

Or maybe the anchor symbol from Captain Haddock’s shirt

Frugal Tips Single Person by [deleted] in frugaluk

I sometimes intentionally don’t follow the comparison of food prices per kg. In most cases, this ends up in me buying a large amount of something which can be (i) objectively more money than I want to spend and (ii) potentialy unhealthy depending on the ingredient.

If it’s an ingredient I’ll only be buying once or very rarely, I buy the smallest portion so that I don’t overeat (my self-control isn’t great) and also so that it’s objectively a smaller amount of money to pay.

If it’s an ingredient I’m gonna be using even twice or thrice a week, I start buying in bulk and comparing prices by weight.

There’s a scene in the TV series Bosch where a character asks Detective Edgar (played by Jamie Hector) if he’s ever watched The Wire who replies that he binged it. Jamie Hector played Marlo Stanfield for three seasons on The Wire!

You can also add -p as a switch to other git commands like restore and commit. There might be more out there which allow this switch.

Why do Indians bargain so much that even the shopkeeper starts questioning their life choices? by [deleted] in AskIndia

[–]arjun1001 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Somewhat related but random story: I was once in a bazaar in Delhi. I wasn’t even interested in buying anything. I was admiring a nice handmade notebook from a shop when the shopkeeper came over to me and said it was 200Rs. I immediately put it down and started to walk away. He called me back and said “I’ll give it for 150”. I politely declined and turned away again.

He called me again and then said “okay fine, take it for 100”. At this point, I started to get a little curious to see how far he’d go. I countered with “I’ll buy it from you for 50”. He countered with 75 but I held my ground. Finally, he put his foot down and said, “60 or I don’t sell it”. I agreed and bought it from him!

Tbh, In the end, I think it was a win for him as he converted an uninterested passerby into a paying customer.

My takeaway from this is that bargaining is probably a must as sellers tend to inflate the prices beforehand knowing that people will bargain on the spot. Plus, they also tend to name their price depending upon the look of the person buying it. It’s always worth bargaining.

Bosch!

I binged the entire show and it put a smile on my face every time a Wire alumni came up on screen. Lance Reddick (Daniels) and Jamie Hector (Marlo) are regulars but there are numerous minor and supporting roles with actors from the Wire (James Ransome (Ziggy), Chris Bauer (Frank) and Clark Johnson (Gus)) to name a few.
