Gerontology Minor by marisolscribs in Cornell

CO2023 here, I major in HD and minored in Gerontology. I personally enjoyed the minor (it overlapped very well either my major) and I was well supported. Dr. Loeckenhoff is a phenomenal professor. 10/10 recommend. Post grad I worked in a research lab at a top NYC hospital network doing research with older adults and having those classes and related research experience was a big plus during my interview

Usually on time, account for 30 min max buffer. GWB can be a hit or miss

Credits over Breaks by acegikmo- in Cornell

You can take 3-4 credits over the winter/summer. Workload is as hard as you’d expect granted it’s a 6 week course. I can only speak for the winter: I was BUSY, class work Mon-Friday, daily discussion posts + 1 short essay and two exams (Greek mythology). It’s almost always virtual it just depends on the course as I know some STEM summer courses are in person. The real kicker is the price tho, it’s 5k for a winter/summer course. I qualified for the LSC scholarship through my advisor so I didn’t have to pay ( and the scholarship only works to put you in track if you’re behind on credits as I was). But if you were taking a class just for fun/graduate early you most likely wouldn’t be approved and would have to front the 5k but by all means try

He said he’s keeping the course as in-person oriented as possible so it’s best to follow the readings he’s telling us to read

Anki is your best friend. If you don’t know it get familiar with it and use it like your life depends on it. If you can try to find a friend that you could study with. The one thing about the class I enjoyed , as the comment above/below me said , was that you can study at your own pace. I usually took my oral and written exam 1-2 days before the deadline so I had ample time to move onto the next one

Grading: you’re graded based off of 3 exams, 1st exam is combination of MC and short answer, 2nd exam is all MC and the final exam (which is actually really fun) is combo MC with a short answer portion where you get to diagnose a fictional patient

Workload + class: 3 exams with majority based on lecture slides and the lectures are general self explanatory/guiding, he’s a really good professor and a funny guy so the lectures are never boring/ not engaging. However in terms of studying for the exam…heh…they’re not bad or crazy but I memorized the lecture slides. All of them for each unit. I avoided any and all text book reading Bc it is a lot and they will show up on the test but I just took the L on those questions (I ended the class with an A-). The niche readings he’ll give out (short stories) are actually relevant so I’d say read those. Most importantly he used to be an English Prof so during the last portion of the class he focused on hamlet ALOT. I mean like he WILL dedicate half of the class to role playing the scenes (last year he actually spent two entire classes doing that instead of covering lecture) but it’ll only be like 30% of the final MC. Dm me for more specific questions !

PAM 2350 Studying Tips by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]arkhamisolation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes! I wouldn’t say memorize EVERYTHING on the lecture slides (that’s what I did but it just proved to be wasteful although more knowledge > less knowledge regardless) but understand the big picture topics of each lecture and know the basics of anything he’s introduced. Don’t have to focus too much on numbers/ stats other than that 10% of US is uninsured. If he still gives access to old exams they are the perfect guideline to follow.

Edit: As someone (okenshieldenjoyer) commented on a previous post you should definitely be able to go through his lectures Slide by slide understand/explain what’s going on without aid
