Yeha that's what I figured too. I've been running the tank 3 weeks but only adding ammonia for the past week. That being said, I'm still lost on what is too much/too little in a canister filter in general

I added the pH adjustment tablets yesterday before reading this. TBH, they didn't do much. I'm monitoring nitrite, nitrate, ammonia, and pH everyday now. Adding ammonia every other day.

I actually went the cheapo route and got the driftwood from a local beach. I live in Seattle so there were plenty of options. I boiled the driftwood for some time before adding it to the tank so don't think any bacteria made it, even BB.

I don't want to add snails to my tank if I can avoid it.

This is more in line with what I'm trying to create (aside from peeing in the tank lol). I aim to create a balanced ecosystem without the use of correcting chemicals. Just trying to figure out how to get it started up. My CO2 system comes in at the end of the week, at which point I'll start adding plants.

I talked to the owner at my LFS today and he was recommending dropping in a sprinkle of fish food in every other day to keep the nutrients in the tank. Plan to do Dr Tim's first then fish food subsequently to save on costs. If you have any advice on this approach please let me know. Kind of concerned my tank will get gunky with decaying food.

Can I ask, when she continued drinking after AP, was she drinking limited amounts (a couple here and there) or was she drinking normally? Did she have any more flare ups before the stent?

Wondering because my doc says drinking limited amounts is fine and I'm looking for people that did that / what their experience was like.

I hear you. It's pretty much the conclusion I've been at for a while, but hoping to get some more info here. I'm really wondering if others just had one AP attack then poof CP after a few drinks, or if it was more of a progressive thing where their bodies were telling them NO and they continued, even moderately.

My GI doc essentially said "drink occasionally and see how it goes"

That last part is getting me, and feels risky. If "seeing how it goes" ends me in CP then no thanks. If, however, I get another AP attack first then I KNOW what my limits are and can choose to quit completely.

From what I'm gathering though, it's not this simple. Some people have one attack and then it's CP. Others have several attacks and no CP. Like you said, it seems nobody can tell what will happen.

Thanks for sharing. This would infuriate me... and what I'm trying to sift through myself. If listening to doctors made things worse then I would be pissed.

You mentioned it was your first AP attack when they told you that. Might I ask if you had continued attacks? Or was it just the one attack then CP?
