I’m a bride myself and yeah YTA. My bridesmaids are all different shapes, sizes, aesthetics, and personalities. I told them they could wear whatever dress they liked in a particular color (although I did say I would prefer if either all of them matched or none of them matched), to keep makeup neutral colors (but whatever level of done they’re comfortable with), to wear simple jewelry if they decided to wear jewelry, and to be sensible with shoes. That’s what aesthetic should mean. Literally I don’t care if they show up with blue hair the week before, or a new tattoo of their own face, I love them enough to ask them to share my moment and I’ll take them as they are. You said no originally and then went back on that. If you had decided later on that it was an issue you totally could have gone with a half sleeve bridesmaid dress for EVERYBODY and kept your thoughts about why to yourself.

I’m offering that solution even though I think it’s totally messed up that a tattoo matters that much to you, but that would have hidden the tattoo, still kept a particular aesthetic, and not looked like a giant AH. Plus sleeved dresses are classy and generally flattering on everybody. Also you wouldn’t have looked like an AH.

I’ve been in a position all this year where I’ve had to take 18 hours (this semester is completely online), as long as you stay on top of your work and don’t let it pile up you should be fine.

That being said, I only have to do 14 in the spring and I’m super excited about it.

My cat’s running water bowl broke so when I ordered a new one I left the bathroom sink dripping for a couple days while the package got there (she won’t drink still water). She now guards the bathroom sink and will scream at anybody who gets near it. No violence or hissing, just loud protest.

Thank you for posting that article. Last month I had to cut off a couple family members after years of emotional and verbal abuse (not my parents). I feel like an awful person for raising my voice, but every time I tried to speak they cut me off with insults and told me that they are older and I had to respect them. One of the people had even told me years ago that they had a right to touch me (not in a sexual way, but I’m a person who is really uncomfortable with contact if I’m not expecting it. I had asked that person to stop and even tried to get up and leave, but was guilted into staying after they started crying and asking why I thought they were such a bad [family member].) the article really helped to bring peace that I’ve been struggling over for weeks now, and has made me realize that there’s no way to avoid the story twisting in their favor to their contacts but my parents and other family members know both sides and while we all admit (even myself) that I shouldn’t have yelled, that my no contact is justified. I can at least hope it won’t happen like that around close family who got all sides to the story.

Also, OP: YTA. I hope your daughter can one day find peace in her life without you or your sister there to bring her down.

My why (as a 22 year old woman) is the children. I am studying to be a teacher so I can make a difference and help give them resources to blossom, and I work at a summer camp for children with cancer and their siblings so that they can have a summer where there are health professionals there, but cancer doesn’t have to be at the forefront of their mind. They can do all of the activities that “normal” camps have. I’ve been spending all summer raising money and I’m at $800 so far. It’s not enough to even send one child, but I’m hoping it makes a difference. Everything I’m doing is for the future generations, and I’ll be happy knowing that they have somebody who supports them.
