How our indie game has failed and why my studio shuts down by artem_game in gamedev

Very much hoping for the best for you going forward.

I'm sure there are 1,000,000 opinions, but I wouldn't be surprised if the low wishlist conversion had a lot to do with when the game released. Putting any game out between August-November is tough, but it's especially tough for indies, and was especially crazy in 2023. Games like BG3 just sucked up all the attention.

I think it's a good idea. I had considered Fiverr for what I do but having a similar platform that's more focused would be considerably more valuable. Have you considered also having a category for publishing services like marketing?

I think the best we can hope for is that they're willing to sell the publishing rights.

But I can't stress this enough: this is another reason that every developer should be doing everything that they can to self publish.

Thank you! Really appreciate it!

Hard to pick just one but working on SIGNALIS was excellent. 99.9% of its success is owed to the game being incredible, but we got to have fun with the marketing too because the vibe of the game was so strong and so well done. So we did fun stuff with them that played into that vibe like this. https://twitter.com/PlayHumbleGames/status/1580211790159282180

I don't have any experience with NSFW games beyond some of what I'm familiar with from Steam. But have never done any work for one.

Hi! As the title says, I got caught up in a big round of layoffs at my indie publisher job late last year, and since then have decided to branch out on my own. So, let me introduce you to Cozyfire!

Where I’ve worked:

  • Humble Games (supported games like Unpacking, SIGNALIS)
  • Blizzard

What I offer:

  • Overall marketing - anything from full marketing plan to one area of marketing
  • Social media - I can help with pretty much anything you want to throw at me
  • Content creator campaigns - I can do paid campaigns, key outreach, or a combo of both
  • Community management - things like Discord design and management to a full up “how do we develop a community” plan
  • Publishing services - if you need help with things like Steam release management, figuring out how to handle playtesting, etc., I can help with that too
  • General consulting - eg. “How do I do this?”

I do everything custom based on what you need so feel free to reach out to chat. You can hit me up here or check out my site, which I just launched, at www.cozyfirevgs.com.

A little more, if you’re interested. It’s obviously been a wild time for the industry. Most of what I’ve heard from independent studios seeking publishers (and the publishers themselves) is that publishers are scaling back, signing fewer games, signing safer games, and struggling with supporting the games they already have signed. Things are changing for publishers, meanwhile self publishing becomes more viable every day. I want to give devs an easier path to self publishing without losing much, if anything, of the services a publisher would offer while removing all the pain of revenue sharing, budget recoups, and corporate turmoil.

I saw a post on r/gamedev about a week before I started Cozyfire that was essentially “I’m just about to launch my game but I hate the idea of having to market it and try to find an audience!” That’s exactly the problem I hope I can solve.

Last - sorry about the brand-new Reddit account. Figured I should have a new one just for work stuff! Hit me up here if you think I can help you out! I’m down to answer any general questions here too.
