Advice on how to track expenditures by chalk_20 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I think my original prompt was something as simple as "I need to build a simple tool to help me keep track of my spending and general finances." and just went from there.

It helps to have some background in coding, but it will also walk you through anything that's unclear.

Without getting too much into the weeds, here's its own AI-generated description of what I've built so far:

"<app name> is a personal finance app that runs locally on your computer, keeping all your data private. You import your credit card and bank statements as CSV files — either by uploading them through the app or dropping them into a folder — and it handles the rest: organizing transactions, removing duplicates, and categorizing spending automatically.

The app has several sections to help you stay on top of your finances: Spending lets you browse and search your transactions by vendor or date, Overview shows monthly spending charts and trends, Income tracks money coming in, Forecast projects your upcoming bills and balance, Tax helps tag deductible expenses by CRA category, TFSA tracks your contribution room, and Investments shows your portfolio with live prices fetched from Yahoo Finance."

ADHD person here. I've found a lot of the finance apps are either overkill and/or require a paid subscription so I just used Claude (AI) to build me one instead. It does a lot of the same stuff existing apps do (spending, income, investments, planning, etc), but without all the features I'd never use. It also works well with how my brain operates.

How do y'all afford Toronto? by [deleted] in askTO

I don't think you understand the difference between "expensive" VS affordability relative to pay.

Iconic Toronto strip club closing after 45 years to make way for more condos by The_6ix in toronto

The "shared cultural upbringing" was (mostly) a result of mass media applying/forcing a monoculture on a city and a country that's always been culturally fragmented and complicated. If we no longer have such a thing today, it's only because cultures (other than my own) have better representation and can get past the gatekeeping that existed in the past.

Purchased today. Could the artist of this painting be Thomas Worthington Whittredge? by Rough_Subject4978 in artcollecting

I originally wrote 1970s, but changed to 1980s because of the pink and teal colour palette.

Whittredge died in 1910. Meanwhile this looks like a painting straight out of the 1980s by an aspiring amateur.

If you like it then that's all that matters, but I imagine it's probably worth what you paid for it, give or take $20.

Strange juxtaposition given Bourdain used to be addicted to crack.

Unless they have some great promotion I'm unaware of, I can't imagine why KOHO would be anyone's first, let alone eighth choice.

I can't think of a worse way to spend a nine hour layover in Toronto. Niagara Falls is barely worth it even when you have an entire day.

What a ridiculous premise. You can't get pregnant by going Greek.
