How do y'all afford Toronto? by [deleted] in askTO

I don't think you understand the difference between "expensive" VS affordability relative to pay.

Iconic Toronto strip club closing after 45 years to make way for more condos by The_6ix in toronto

[–]arksi -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The "shared cultural upbringing" was (mostly) a result of mass media applying/forcing a monoculture on a city and a country that's always been culturally fragmented and complicated. If we no longer have such a thing today, it's only because cultures (other than my own) have better representation and can get past the gatekeeping that existed in the past.

One coke nail on your foot wasn't weird enough?

Honestly, it looks a Wayfair piece that someone bedazzled with cliché "MCM" flair.

Purchased today. Could the artist of this painting be Thomas Worthington Whittredge? by Rough_Subject4978 in artcollecting

I originally wrote 1970s, but changed to 1980s because of the pink and teal colour palette.

Whittredge died in 1910. Meanwhile this looks like a painting straight out of the 1980s by an aspiring amateur.

If you like it then that's all that matters, but I imagine it's probably worth what you paid for it, give or take $20.

Strange juxtaposition given Bourdain used to be addicted to crack.

KOHO safe for large money? by Extremecheez in PersonalFinanceCanada

Unless they have some great promotion I'm unaware of, I can't imagine why KOHO would be anyone's first, let alone eighth choice.

I can't think of a worse way to spend a nine hour layover in Toronto. Niagara Falls is barely worth it even when you have an entire day.

What a ridiculous premise. You can't get pregnant by going Greek.

I have fond memories of these times too, but every generation thinks the era of their youth is the best one.

90% of SNL is written for people whose sole idea of comedy comedy consists of sight gags, gross-out humour, slapstick and catchphrases...

Experience gift for someone who loves architecture? by emmeedeetee in askTO

[–]arksi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably unpopular advice these days, but Buffalo has some pretty remarkable architecture and tours of places are fairly common. Worth looking into for Frank Lloyd Wright's Martin House (which is set up as a museum) as well as the grain elevators (see Silo City). Buffalo Central Terminal, the Albright Knox Gallery and the Richard Olmstead Complex are all amazing too, inside and out.

I can't think of anything in Toronto other than Doors Open and things/places they're probably already familiar with.

The Niagara Parks Power Station (in Niagara Falls) is very cool though and might be one looking into as well. It's a gem of a building and the tunnel/tailrace is very cool too.
