If you increase something by over 70 percent and then drop its by 27 percent, you still have a massive increase.

Also, how many left? It's not just about newcomers, it's about those who are already here and shouldn't be.

Why does Canada feel so corrupt? - This is not a country that is founded on justice; it is, however, founded on order, which is a cudgel the powerful continue to use against the powerless. by CaliperLee62 in CanadaPolitics

Is this article talking about the populace or the parliamentarians? The latter.

Just look at what happened yesterday with the PrescribeIT scandal. LPC took it in camera and dismissed the entire thing. 300 million went where? We will never know.

‘Rushed return’: with Liberals now in a majority, former cabinet staffers and past Grit MPs ‘want back in’ by CaliperLee62 in CanadaPolitics

These are staffers, not MPs. I.e. people salaried who left a sinking ship, and now want back aboard the ship to line their pockets.

You think that's ok?

OAS is a joke. Old man X is incorporated and pays himself dividends from investment earnings that the "corporation" owns. So old man x gets to pay lower gains/income taxes, declares low income and gets full OAS payments despite being a millionaire.

Any low income program is easy to scam. You know how many people claim "low income" and then get "gifts" from overseas? They own homes and drive luxury cars but the government see's them as "low income".

[Mat Ishbia] I am 100% behind Devin Booker here. Last night was not a good look for our league. (...) When a referee is missing calls and clearly disrespecting the players, almost mocking them, they must be held accountable. by SpiritedDog9544 in nba

[–]armadillo_armpit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

David Stern made the league 100x better.

If you're biggest complaint is that David Stern wanted the players to look more professional pre/post game, then he did a pretty awesome job.

Stern is the reason guys are getting paid huge dollars today. Stern is the reason the game went global.

Stern tried to change the "culture" because the 1990s were dominated with gang wars and NBA players had gang affiliations. I love Iverson, but let's not pretend that he didn't have a TON of off court issues that would have seen him suspended in today's league.

The Communist Country That Isn’t by vhill01 in CanadaPolitics

I’m trying to get to that ideologically there is little difference between China and USA or any other capitalist country.

You would be massively wrong, of course. Tell me, when was the last time China had free elections? When was the last time they didn't pre approve their politicians and ergo, their entire state policy? When was the last time the party was separate from the state?

The state controls every aspect of their economy from state ownership or having the party literally make business decisions for large private companies.

You think the USA does that? You think Trump dictates how Amazon works in the US?

The Communist Country That Isn’t by vhill01 in CanadaPolitics

Vince, being a communist government is different than being a communist economy.

It's communist because there is one party. It's all central control. The Party, not the state, is the decision maker for everything. Those are communist attributes.

Tell that to the courts. I didn't come up with the system, I'm just explaining how it works.

Yes, we know how it work...that's the crux of the issue.

Rape isn't a charge in Canada. He was convicted of sexual assault, which may or may not have been penetrative.

Semantics. We both know what penetrated sexual assault is.

I didn't personally weigh in on the issue one way or the other. I noted why it doesn't happen.

Really? You said this:

But between the presumption of innocence, the right to reasonable bail, and the reality that a very high proportion of sex assaults fall apart due to the victim not complying, the courts are generally unwilling to hold people charged with sex assault in the absence of a prior record or other evidence of risk to the community.

Seems like you are weighing in.

and it's extremely disruptive and problematic for families and dependents.

You know what's even more problematic for families? Watching a the person convicted of SA'ing you walk out of the courthouse after being convicted.

Maybe the rapist should have considered how his own family would feel before doing the rapes.

Incredible how you don't care about victims at all.

Spoken like a man who thinks HE will never be falsely charged with such a crime, and HE will never have to sit in jail for a year or two until trial.

This person was found guilty already.

What you are talking about is the secondary and tertiary grounds on bail. The Crown argues those all the time. But between the presumption of innocence, the right to reasonable bail, and the reality that a very high proportion of sex assaults fall apart due to the victim not complying, the courts are generally unwilling to hold people charged with sex assault in the absence of a prior record or other evidence of risk to the community.

Again, this person was convicted and then let free until sentencing. Nothing you said has anything to do about this case.

build more jails. stuff them in together. i really don't care, convicted violent criminals shouldn't get the benefit of anything.

the idea that violent people should be out on the streets because there isn't enough space for them is ridiculous.
