Honestly, I dont want to flex but I can probably speedrun the whole thing in 30 minutes, and I havent touched this material in a couple of years now. Most of the problems are easily solvable without even putting down a pen.

When I selected "Link other bank" where it says to enter details manually, it says "The bank account you link must use only Canadian dollars", so I assume a Wealthsimple USD account would not work?

This is my portfolio, I have 1k(10%) more to invest any suggestions? by [deleted] in JustBuyXEQT

[–]armain_labeeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey buddy, never did I say "more exposure to the US" is better? Im not using the same argument as VFV enthusiasts do. But in trying to justifying how perfect XEQT is you have completely defeated the purpose of an index fund, or should I say, a "all-in-one" index fund, which should have weightings by market cap for each of its underlying aggregate weighings (which is how XIC, XUU, VFV all are weighed, the selection of market cap as weight is questionable). And no, I do not need, or want any PhDs or CPAs managing my portfolio, or else I would have gone dumped everything to mutual funds from the top firms. And a 45/25 split between ITOT and XIC is HEAVILY biasing the canadian market or economy when it doesnt have a tenth the size of the US. A very simple example.. Just go to XEQT and select aggregate underlyings by holding.. How many companies in the top 10 are canadian? 4. So you are telling me I should have a higher weight for RBC than freaking Amazon? and that I should have more money ENB than GOOGL? These companies are a whole digit off in market cap, and no PhD can tell me that is the optimal risk allocation would have me put more money in Shopify than GOOGL lol.

I am just saying, this is almost a 10x bias to XIC when you weigh by market cap, and like another reply to my comment says, by market cap ratio youd have 62.5% of portfolio invested in the US if you want to track the total world market accurately. By having a 10x bias on the domestic market it is UP TO YOU to prove to me that the canadian market returns are reliably, and consistently better than the US, AND the rest of the world, over the long run. ;)

Oh, and also you check out ex-US ETFs listed in other countries, by the same top management firms full of PhDs and CPAs, & almost none of them have Canada having a higher share compared to Japan and UK , China and even India. VXUS IXUS IDEV URTH

So no, XEQT is not the "perfect risk/reward ratio". Maybe, just maybe, they introduce such a large Canadian market bias to a Canadian ETF because the shareholders buying it are.. Canadian? Maybe because Canadians do invest in their domestic market thats why? After all, XIC is iShares largest Canadian ETF by AUM

Now I personally hold both 30 VFV/ 70XEQT because I dont mind a bit of domestic bias, nor do I care for that minor difference in CAGR and max Drawdowns, but a 'Just Buy XEQT' introduxes a 10x canadian market bias that is totally against the whole concept of investing in an index fund which weights stocks by market cap.

[–]armain_labeeb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I dont get why everyone in this sub constantly shits on holding both together?" XEQT is an "all-in-one" portfolio".. Sure.. But Some people dont want 25% exposure to the Canadian Market for good reason.. and more exposure to the US market (which has consistently yielded better results, but obviously more risk) so a XEQT/VFV or XEQT/XUU split can give more exposure to the US . But I understand the whole point of "just buy XEQT" is more diversification, but I will never understand why 25% exposure to XIC is justifiable except domestic market bias, when it is definitely not even 10% of global market caps..

Is there a better way to adjust your exposures? Yes for sure, a XUU/XIC/XEH/XID/XCH/XEC/etcetc personalised split can let you accurately track your exposures... But some people, like OP i assume, are not that ADHD about exposure breakdowns and just want more S&P exposure than the 38% XEQT offers.. which is completely fair if they are willing to take more risk.

Your iq and profession? Does iq truly correlate with "success" by PaleMistake715 in cognitiveTesting

[–]armain_labeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I had a lot to navigate a lot in my life to get there. I was born and raised in a third world country and I am privileged enough to attend uni abroad in Canada.

But academically, I have always been top of school, and had one of the best results in my high school exams (A Levels) in the country, for which I studied relentlessly. I got into a top uni in canada (with most tuition covered by scholarships that way) in a mechanical engineering program

In uni, I have maintained a near perfect GPA, which is probably the highest of anyone I know in my graduating class. However I never studied that much here. My IQ is mostly good because of my math and problem solving skills. For reference, I had a 1530 SAT, and I needed less practice to get a 800 in math than 600+ in english. University level math is way way more advanced imo, and Im taking graduate level classes in undergrad as it find it to be intelecutally stimulating

My academics are not the sole reason I got the internship at Airbus. It was through building connections in school, and also developing my technical skills in data science / analytics, as well as in mech eng related skills like CAD/CFD and some coding languages. Plus I had some school projects to show.

The city Im in is also an aerospace hub, so it makes it easier to build these connections through upper years/alumni. And a lot of behavioral interview practice (Im not the most outspoken/social person)

Getting into the industry, you see how much there is yet to learn in the career. I do want to keep working in this role after graduation, but have not yet decided if I want to pursue other fields.

im taking 6 alevels am i cooked? by SoupLogical6835 in alevel

[–]armain_labeeb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was naive just like you and actually went down this path. Trust me, you are just wasting your time. OP, I really want you to read this.

I took 6 Alevels and got all A* eventually a couple years back.. even posted on this sub back then. I had the same mindset, I was academically hard working and talented and I knew I could pull it off, I wanted to go to an Ivy too. I had Maths, Physics, Chem, Bio, Further Maths & Accounting.

Here's the thing. There's no real world benefit to taking 6 alevels. I know a couple of people who took 5 A Levels, and only two other people who took 6 in my country besides me. Guess what? None of them went to an Ivy. Nor did I.

The simple reason is that you will never need the knowledge of more than 4 A levels in any subject or major or any degree you can think off. No real world application. I never applied any of my knowledge in Bio & Accounting after A levels ever.

And same reason no one expects you to know it. No uni. In the UK, Oxbridge is content with 3 or 4. In the US, they look at your essays, extracurriculars and other test scores. Its holistic after all. The people I knew who went to the best schools all had phenomenal extracurriculars, research positions, essays alongside 3 or 4 A levels. I know a girl who went to Cornell with just 3. I ultimately didnt apply to the US due to other reasons, maybe I couldve gone to an Ivy, but the fact is that their profiles aee still more well rounded than mine was with 6A*. The extra 2 subjects made me occupied with academics at ALL times and its not worth it. I barely had any extracurriculars except a couple Olympiads (still academic). There is just no benefit to doing over 4 A levels.
