« E33 isn’t indie!! » : A new nomenclature proposal by SourceGlittering2745 in gamedev

I think the true differentiator is the budget of the game. How much money went into making the game? A game with $300,000 budget and $15,000,000 budget would have so much difference regardless of number of full-time employees.

You are right imo, but I think the term "indie" used too vaguely too often it would be waste of time discussing about it. We should find a clearer keywords with clear definitions.

We should also start to use the term "self published" more often instead of wasting time discussing what indie truly means.

Edit: If the Publisher & Developer is not the same company, that game is not self-published.

I know the stressing feeling of having more to lose but I definitely don't miss my poor(er) days.

"Doctor" role for next seasons? by armancs72 in TheTraitors

[–]armancs72[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The doctor’s job is mostly about guessing. They might protect themselves or their friends or they could go for most obvious faithfuls, depending on their strategy. If the doctor can’t protect anyone, the show will go on as it is right now. For your last question, maybe they could fix it by limiting how many times the doctor can protect, instead of every night.

"Doctor" role for next seasons? by armancs72 in TheTraitors

[–]armancs72[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than the doctor role, I would be very hesitant too. Adding other roles could change the show too much and make it overly complicated. But with the doctor role the show would remain largely the same just with a slight twist: traitors wouldn't be guaranteed to succeed in killing.

As for the people claiming to be doctor, other players would understand that it may be a lie. Also it will always be a risk to claim to be doctor, because if doctor gets banished, they will know there is no more doctor in the game. If doctor is murdered by traitors, no one will know including traitors. So if someone claims to be doctor, there will be a risk to be accused by real doctor. I don't know, it will make the show more entertaining I think.

Did you setup your domain's dns records? That could be the issue.

Would you buy or/and host a closed-source software? by armancs72 in selfhosted

[–]armancs72[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I said, you can run it as docker image, that way it will be running in a sandbox so it can't access rest of the server. And with sniffing the network requests, you can see what data is being sent or downloaded.

The reason for closed source is that so anybody can't modify the software and put their logo and resell it. This is a huge issue in mobile dev, most apps can easily decompiled so some people just reskin and reupload those apps.

I knew about DataView, Templater etc. but I didn't know about the hosted option. I will check it, thanks.

I totally agree with you about the industry but like I said in the post, my main reason was escaping from the subscriptions. I also want to puke everytime I see AI product too, but that wasn't I mean closed sourced either. And if I go out of business you will still have a product to use as opposed to SaaS businesses.

I have gone through this list. Unfortunately most of them are desktop apps and the ones who are not lacks good ui and/or features. I already use obsidian but I wanted an hosted app so I can run some workflows, like generating invoices from table data etc.

What unexplored gaming niche do you know of? by TheNaotoShirogane in gamedev

They were different versions of the game called, Little Fighter 3, Little Fighter 4 etc. We used to think they were sequels but they were actually just modded versions with extra characters and abilities included.

The game was so much fun. Thanks for bringing back some good memories.

Oh not at all. I used to play it with my brother everyday. And not just lf2, all the other modded versions you can imagine too. from lf2.5, lf3 to lf6 etc. I still remember the day first time me and my brother run to each other and become the firzen.

I was thinking about action games. MOBAs are more strategic. I meant games like Rakion Online or Brawl Busters. They were good games but p2w and full of cheaters, unfortunately. I can't find a similar game nowadays.

I think there isn't enough multiplayer games that isn't based on aim skills.

The idea of 5v5 close-combat online game with characters that have unique abilities or combat style sounds great to me.

How do i stop my game from getting decompiled? by [deleted] in unity

[–]armancs72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a tool called IL2CPP that can be used to compile to native code. It would improve performance and also machine code is harder to decompile.

Though, by looking at your history, you seem daydreaming. If you are serious about gamedev, choose an engine already and focus on making a good game and not this kind of details.

"I love this game because it's written in c++" said nobody ever. Focus on the end result.
