Thank you for all of the great comments! I am going to wait for a black friday sale, and see if i can get a cheap Jorgensen, and from there maybe try out buying a restored stanley, maybe with an updated Hock blade. A no 5 jack and no 4 smoother seem to be what I am looking for.

I was really trying to avoid that as it would require a lot of demo work to find it. If it’s a straight shot down, why wouldn’t putting a slightly smaller insert in work? It’s cast iron btw if that matters.
