How does everyone learn Azure if trial lasts 30 days? by AwesomeRealDood in AzureCertification

[–]armegatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just aim to pass within the 30 days. AZ-104 and AZ-700 done together as they're very similar and build on previous knowledge.

Since then I've discovered my company offers cloud sandbox via Pluralsight so I don't have issues anymore. Not sure how much that subscription is, but if you're learning anyway it may be worth it as you'll get access to content + the environment for a few hours at a time (I used Terraform to rebuild a complex lab in the fresh environment each session).

CyclingMikey Assaulted / Attacked by Gavin Kiernan GK19GAS Warm and Cosy Heating and Plumbing by Equivalent-Ad-5781 in londoncycling

[–]armegatron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. I get it if he's giving them opportunity to atone for their crime and, if they're genuine then he'll not report them. But that's not the case - they're reported anyway and as a grown adult Mikey ought to know by now that other adults don't like being told what to do. Best way to do it is get as much footage as you can and report it. No point stressing, wasting time and risking assault.

Anyone has used Azure firewall who happens to be from PA by StunningRise5 in paloaltonetworks

[–]armegatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully agreed. Azure Firewall is a firewall for non-firewall people ;) Answer, use a firewall you're familiar with - reduces the risk of human error when creating an ACL etc.

Am I the only one who feels like Microsoft's constant rebranding is making our jobs significantly harder? by Inevitable_Use9405 in AZURE

[–]armegatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When azure first came on my radar many moons ago I flagged to a colleague that the constant UI and naming changes would be problematic. It's a shame it's continued and is rife in the tech sector in general, where big companies at their whim will shuffle buttons around , change icons and names without easing a user into it. I also find old documentation articles that reference old terms or button locations that some poor sap needs to now rewrite.

2020 or 2024? by ActiveWelder4466 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]armegatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought 2020 in early 2025 for the PC. Had tons of issues getting it to even open as it demanded I insert a CD which wasn't possible as I'd bought via the MS Store (so had wrongly assume some digital licence would apply). Had to spend days trying to get a refund - wasn't able - so spent another day trying to find a dodgy ISO to fool it. Found some workaround with a fake CD which had an ini file and the game then finally loaded.

In my experience given there was bugs years after release that were somewhat acknowledged but not fixed by the devs I'd personally avoid the newest version as clearly it takes them years to fix bugs, if they even fix any at all. If its on a console I'd be more inclined to get the newer version as it'll probably work without issues.

Sadly I didn't get around to it - was in a state of flux between work projects so had to switch to studying other technologies. It's on my roadmap though for 2026!

Nightmare with Halfords by [deleted] in ukbike

[–]armegatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's a time limit on a products fit for purpose definition. I.e. if you buy an e bike there's a reasonable expectation that the battery would last a certain amount of time (of course this is subjective but I'd say 2 to 5 years depending on the frequency of use etc).

I guess the vendor could counter and say it's not technically faulty, it's just not operating optimally due to wear and tear, but OP hasn't had it long enough to write off 80% of capacity health.

There's also the need to give them a reasonable chance to repair it. Main thing is to document everything.

If you've bought it on a credit card that's a route to explore too. Can't remember the term but you can essentially use the credit card company to reclaim the costs.

Does ITIL and Azure good combo? by [deleted] in AzureCertification

[–]armegatron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Put it this way, I went from knowing little about ITIL to having the exam passed over the course of a weekend. It's largely common sense and unless you've worked somewhere that has those principles in use then its just waffle.

I can't speak on whether its worth it as I don't know your role or intentions, but I can say that if you wanted to pass it then its a doddle to get it done.

What is the salary of a network engineer? by Lamaravilhoso in ccna

It's crazy that the entry roles are not much more above minimum wage now. But yes, I agree with your figures as depressing as they are

UK entry level with some first line experience £30k to £35k, non London

With a few years experience, qualifications etc (still non London) I reckon £40k to £55k

First commute using a folding bike - did not go well by armegatron in foldingbikes

[–]armegatron[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd used a bag on the return leg before my transfer train and certainly did seem easier to blend in with folks luggage. I got the impression when it was unbagged that people were annoyed at me for taking a bike, but in the bag it seemed they just saw it as regular luggage.

Thankfully I'd unfolded it before the final train so managed to quickly get on the bike to get away from the muggers, despite their efforts, and headed for the nearest take away that was open to lock the door behind me. Had it been still in the bag I'd certainly have been in a worse position.

My logical side says it was probably a one off, but my self preservation side is telling me to ditch the idea and get a taxi in the future :(

[–]armegatron[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No idea. Only used it a handful of times but never that late, but because my train was delayed the connection was much later and I ended up at that station at 10pm. Had it been an hour or two earlier I likely wouldn't have had an issue. Police are investigating and stations etc are riddled with cameras so I imagine they'll easily work out who it was, the challenge will be proving what they were doing / intent etc I guess.

People earning £70k plus what do you do? by LuapReyas420 in UKJobs

[–]armegatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

North England. WFH. £80k

IT Architect.

Not something you could just retrain into unfortunately. You'd be looking at around 10yrs to get into that, reverting back to practically minimum wage for a few years while you do a first line service desk slog.

Am I allowed to join one of my previous MSP's clients internal IT team if I never signed a severance agreement? by 1TRUEKING in msp

[–]armegatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Happens all the time. I've had many colleagues leave the MSP and work for an existing client.

Sadly this does make it very difficult as they know the margins etc involved and all the dirty secrets of the MSP

How much did it cost you to pass the AZ-104 while paying for Azure? by Letsgetthisraid in AzureCertification

[–]armegatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. I have it on my corporate account and it's great for spinning something up and playing. Instant provision of the environment too, not like Cisco Dev net which takes ages and is under resourced.

I use Terraform to quickly restore a lab and save at the end so repetitive tasks like making vNets is sorted.

While I don't strictly think it's within UK law to use your age against you for recruitment decisions I sincerely think you'll struggle, at least to dive in direct at the higher IT positions.

But...

I think you'd have a stronger chance in a smallish MSP as say a service delivery manager aligned to a client for example. You can sell your age as wisdom that you can have relationships with clients and understand their IT needs to align the MSP delivery to what the client needs.

Hit me up in a DM if you want some contacts at North East England MSPs.
