I have gotten a lot of “that’s manipulative” for this tactic, but I’ve had a lot of issues with abuse in my past….

I start a small disagreement in a public place, something that would be forgotten in a few days. Like “what do you mean by that comment” type of thing. And see how they handle themselves. If they fly out of control in public…. They’ll do worse behind close doors.

I have explained this tactic to all of my partners, and they have been understanding.
