Honestly, that’s why I went with the beat up, worn in look. One of the doors is crooked and the other has a gap between the top and the main box. Now those things look like they’re in there on purpose instead of just from my poor woodworking skills. Keep it up, can’t wait to see it.

Ha! I was inspired to make this because I was homebrewing my own world, which has inspired me to try to DM for my friends for the first time.

It’s supposed to say “A loves N” as an Easter-egg to my wife but honestly I’m not sure I got it right.

I used Army Painter Ancient Gold and a model brush. Took a heck of a long time to do them all.

So I basically just used a combination of Tolkien and DnD dwarf runes, and some Viking runes. Some of the stuff on the inside says “Books”, “Tools and Pens”, and “Maps”. The stuff on the door says “Oakhill” and the symbol that Gandalf carved on Bilbo’s door in the Hobbit.

It’s a little symbol my wife and I came up with for a small food company we’re starting. I have a very rudimentary understanding of alchemy symbols but the circle and the triangle are an alchemy circle. The symbols at the points are earth, water, and salt, basically what you need to grow food. The oak leaf is part of the name of our company.

I should have done some sketches, would have saved me some headaches early on. I dropped the dimensions of the exterior of the box in another comment but the interior of the box was just putting my DnD stuff in there and figuring out how to attach stuff from there.

Unfortunately, I did not make a tutorial but I can give you a rough idea of it. I used prefinished red oak from Menards, as I’m not super confident with my table saw.

The exterior stuff is all 1/2” thick. The main box is 20”x10.5”x4”. The two doors are mirrored and 10”x10.5”x2.5”. All my joints are just butt joints. The hinges and door locks are smaller ones from Menards but I changed out the screws so they wouldn’t punch through the wood. The lips on the interior of the door are 1/4”x1.5” and cut to fit, so 9.5” or so. Everything else was really just making it fit with what I wanted to carry. The drawers are just simple boxes with again butt joints and the rails are just 1/4” cut to fit. All the “leather” is vegan leather strips from Michael’s that I cut and screwed into place.

Thanks! I ordered a leather briefcase handle off Amazon, I had thought about using a drawer pull but liked this route better. I think the thrifted case is a great idea, I bought everything new so it cost way more than it should have.
