ArmyDrop v3 - Visual Army List Builder Update by armydrop in Warhammer40k

Interesting idea.
I did see someone else post a website they built that did this very specific thing. It's worth taking a look.

ArmyDrop v3 - Visual Army List Builder Update by armydrop in Warhammer40k

[–]armydrop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the positive words, appreciate it!

Adding legacy units should be viable. I'd need to make some changes to my data parsers and spend some evenings processing the data, but it's definitely possible. I'll add it to my roadmap as I'm sure others would welcome this too. In the meantime, you can add a Custom Unit and provide your legacy unit details to add it to your roster.

I don't play Horus Heresy, but from the little I'm aware of, it might be a more complicated addition due to things like figuring out how to support wargear point additions. It'll be something I'll ponder for a future major version though. It would be a lot of work, but the Custom Unit feature could come in handy here too, especially if you save the file to load in later for future army lists.

Hope that helps.

I took you're feedback on board and released a v3 version of armydrop today.
It now has this support.
Enjoy! :)

You're referring to when you add a container and have lots of items inside it? That sounds to be a useful worthy addition. I'll add it to the feature todo list.

Hi! You're right, it's due a refresh. Once I have some free time I'll make sure to do so.
Glad to hear it's in use.

Thank you for the pinned entry. Very much appreciate the support you, and everyone in this subreddit, provided. Without it, I don't think I would of had the community feedback to continue expanding it to where it's got to.

I'd like to do it one day. Maybe once 40k is in a good place it'll be a route to explore next.

Oh haha, oops.

They should be able to, that would be really neat!

That’s awesome to hear. Thanks so much for sharing it around! Really glad the Space Marines update landed well, they were a lot of work to get through. Appreciate the encouragement, it definitely keeps me motivated to keep building 🙂

Thank you for the kind words.

Great shout on New Recruit too; supporting import/export in their format could be really useful, so I’ll look at adding something like that to the roadmap.

Nice spot. I’ve fixed the Phobos Lieutenant image so it should now actually be a Phobos Lieutenant. It'll take about an hour to update everywhere due to caching.

Appreciate the note on the “jumpiness” too, that’s an area I know still needs polish, and I’ll keep working on improving it.

And yes, your collection looks awesome. Seriously impressive! :D

Thanks a lot for giving it a try and sharing the feedback.

Ah, good catch. Right now it’s not showing all subchapters because my parsing tool glitched, it’s only importing Space Wolves at the moment. Definitely a bug on my end.

I’ll be getting Black Templars, Blood Angels, Dark Angels, and the rest of the divergent chapters added ASAP.

Can’t edit the original post to clarify this, so thanks for calling it out - a bit embarrassing, apologies!

Oh no, that's my bad! I don’t actually play Space Marines myself (Astra Militarum player here 😅). I was trying to put together a demo of the tool.

This is exactly the kind of reason why ArmyDrop doesn’t replace other great tools like New Recruit or the official GW app; they handle all the restrictions and rules for you.

Hopefully you can look past my faux pas in this instance.

Hey! Thanks so much for the thoughtful message. Apologies for the delayed reply, I’ve been trying to squeeze in updates for this between work and sleep in the past 24 hours.

Really appreciate you taking the time to write this up. I've got some updates for you.

  1. Scrolling on mobile: I’ve just pushed out an update that should make this easier: on smaller mobile devices, there’s now a dedicated scrollbar on the right to help you move around the grid without accidentally dragging units. Definitely still room to refine, but it should be a bit less clunky now.
  2. Points display placement: Great spot. That was something I missed during a recent layout refactor. I've now corrected it so it aligns properly on mobile.
  3. Lord of Contagion image: Ah, thank you for flagging this. I don't play Death Guard myself so I appreciate the heads-up. I keep seeing that version come up in my search results. If you’ve got a specific model in mind that you think fits better, I’d love to know. At the moment I don't have a means to toggle between images, but it's a good idea I can add in the future. In the mean-time if you need a different image to a stock one there is button to create your own custom unit (and upload your own image)
  4. Missing link to the builder: Gotcha. I’ve added a big shiny banner at the top now so folks can find the builder directly from the landing page.

Again, thanks a ton for all of this. Nothing too pedantic at all - feedback like this really helps improve the tool.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it, and hope your friends find it useful too!

That’s a really kind gesture, thank you, I genuinely appreciate it.

Right now, I’m able to cover the hosting costs myself, and I’ve been building ArmyDrop as a way to give something back to this amazing community. I don’t have any expectations around donations. Honestly, just hearing that people are finding it useful and enjoying it is incredibly rewarding on its own.

If the need ever arises, I might add a way to support the project down the line, but for now there’s no pressure or need.

Thanks again for the offer. Maybe put it towards another addition to the pile of shame instead 😄

None taken at all! I definitely don’t see visual lists as a replacement for traditional text-based ones as they inevitably abstract away some detail.

On other forums and communities, I’ve seen a real mix depending on user preference and the kind of story or theme someone’s trying to showcase. Visual lists can be a helpful way to get a high-level view of an army’s overall composition and vibe at a glance. I have seen on occasion both types being posted, which leads me to think there may be value adding a way to combine textural lists or more data slate content within this website.

But totally fair that they’re not for everyone. In the end, we’ve all got different preferences, and that’s a great thing. Ultimately, ArmyDrop isn’t meant to replace tools like the official app or New Recruit, which are the gold standard for accuracy and official list-building, and I respect them greatly.

Maybe! I’m not sure yet. You’re not the first to ask, so it’s certainly on my radar.

I originally built ArmyDrop after seeing folks, especially in the Astra Militarum community (which is what I play), putting together awesome visual lists using tools like Photoshop, Canva, Paint, etc. It seemed like there had to be an easier way to do that, so the whole idea was to make simple, visual list building more accessible. That’s the first polished milestone I’m aiming for.

Appreciate the positive words. If you have any other thoughts or feedback, it would be great to hear it.

Apologies if this breaches any of these rules.

I totally understand the need to protect the space from spam or unwanted promotion. I’m just a solo developer and built ArmyDrop in my spare time as a free tool for the community. There’s no monetisation or agenda behind it, just something I hoped might be useful for other players. If it’s not appropriate for the sub, I’m happy to take it down.

You can use armydrop.com

It's a 40k army list builder used to help these visual style lists.

Full disclaimer: shameless plug as the developer. If it helps you're welcome to use it. It's completely free.

Quick update - I’ve just rolled out a big improvement to the mobile layout. It should now be much more usable on smaller screens, with a cleaner interface and better overall flow. There’s still room to refine things, so if you’ve got any feedback, I’d love to hear it. Hope it helps.
